WARNING
ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes pose a serious danger. If you notice an exhaust smell inside your Kia Picanto at any time, open the windows immediately. Treat any exhaust entering the passenger compartment as a safety concern.
Do not breathe exhaust fumes.
Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colourless, odourless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. The absence of a noticeable smell does not mean that carbon monoxide is absent.
Make sure the exhaust system is free from leaks.
Have the exhaust system checked whenever the vehicle is raised for an oil change or any other work. An inspection is also necessary if the exhaust sound changes or an object strikes the underside of the vehicle. Have the system checked by a professional workshop; Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
Never run the engine in an enclosed area.
Allowing the engine to idle inside a garage is dangerous, even when the garage door is open. Run the engine in a garage only for the time needed to start the vehicle and reverse it outside.
Avoid prolonged idling with people inside the vehicle.
If extended idling with occupants inside is unavoidable, do so only in an open area. Select the outside (fresh) air intake position and run the fan at one of its higher speeds to draw fresh air into the passenger compartment.
If the size of the objects you are carrying makes it necessary to drive with the tailgate open, use the following ventilation settings:
Close every window.
Open the side ventilation outlets.
Select the outside (fresh) air intake position, direct airflow to the floor or face-level outlets, and set the fan to one of its higher speeds.
Keep the ventilation air intakes immediately ahead of the windscreen clear of snow, ice, leaves and other obstructions. Unrestricted air intakes are necessary for the ventilation system to operate properly.
