Auto Hold keeps your Kia Picanto stationary after you bring it to a complete stop using the brake pedal. Once the function has engaged, it maintains the stop even when you take your foot off the pedal, so you do not need to keep pressing it while the vehicle remains held.
Depress the brake pedal and start the vehicle, keeping it stationary as you prepare to enable Auto Hold.
Press the Auto Hold button. The AUTO HOLD indicator illuminates white to show that the system is in standby and ready to engage when the required conditions are met.
|
The driver’s door, tailgate and engine bonnet must all be closed before Auto Hold can engage. Check that each is securely closed before relying on the function.
|
When you press the brake pedal and bring the vehicle to a complete stop, the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from white to green. Green confirms that Auto Hold has engaged and is holding the vehicle stationary, allowing you to release the brake pedal.
Applying the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) releases the Auto Hold function, transferring the holding task to the parking brake.
If you depress the accelerator with D (Drive), R (Reverse) or Manual mode selected, Auto Hold releases automatically and the vehicle begins to move. The indicator changes from green back to white, showing that Auto Hold has returned to standby and the EPB is released.
Before pressing the accelerator to move away from an Auto Hold stop, always check the area around your Kia Picanto and make sure the intended path is clear.
Apply the accelerator slowly and progressively so that the vehicle pulls away smoothly when the holding force is released.
|
Press the Auto Hold switch to cancel the function. The AUTO HOLD indicator goes out to show that the system has been switched off.
If Auto Hold is keeping the vehicle stationary, depress and hold the brake pedal while pressing the Auto Hold switch. This keeps the vehicle controlled as the function is cancelled.
NOTE
Auto Hold will not engage under any of the following conditions. The indicator will not turn green, and the system will remain in standby:
The driver’s door is open.
The engine bonnet is open.
The tailgate is open.
The transmission is in P (Park).
The EPB is already applied.
For safety, Auto Hold transfers automatically to the EPB in any of the following situations. The electronic parking brake applies, and the Auto Hold indicator returns to white:
The driver’s door is opened.
The engine bonnet is opened.
The tailgate is opened.
The vehicle remains stationary for more than 10 minutes.
The vehicle is stopped on a steep slope.
The vehicle moves for a few seconds while being held.
In these situations, the brake warning light illuminates and the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from green to white. An audible warning and a display message confirm that the EPB has engaged automatically. Before moving off again, depress the foot brake, check the surrounding area and release the parking brake manually using the EPB switch.
A yellow AUTO HOLD indicator means that the function is not operating correctly. Have your vehicle inspected by a professional workshop so the cause can be identified. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of an accident, do not activate Auto Hold when driving downhill, reversing or parking the vehicle. Leave the function off during these manoeuvres.
A fault in the system that detects whether the driver’s door, tailgate or engine bonnet is open can prevent Auto Hold from operating correctly.
If this occurs, have your Kia Picanto checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends an authorised Kia dealer or service partner to inspect the system and determine the cause.
NOTE
A clicking sound or a whine from the electric brake motor may be heard when the EPB applies or releases. These are normal operating sounds and indicate that the electronic parking brake mechanism is working.
Auto Hold uses display messages and audible warnings to draw your attention to certain operating conditions. Read the message and follow the instruction shown, particularly when it asks you to apply the brake pedal.
When the system transfers from Auto Hold to the EPB, a warning sounds and a message confirms that the parking brake has engaged automatically.
|
A: Parking brake automatically engaged |
If the transfer from Auto Hold to the EPB does not work correctly, an audible warning sounds and the display instructs you to press the brake pedal.
|
A: AUTO HOLD turning Off! Press brake pedal |
NOTE
When this message appears, neither Auto Hold nor the EPB may operate. Press the brake pedal to maintain control of the stationary vehicle rather than relying on either holding function.
If you press the AUTO HOLD switch to release the function without first applying the brake pedal, a warning sounds and a message reminds you to press the pedal before deactivation.

A: Press brake pedal to deactivate AUTO HOLD |
