Never move the shift lever from N (Neutral) into another position while pressing the accelerator. Release the accelerator before selecting a driving gear.
Bring the vehicle to a complete stop before selecting R (Reverse) or D (Drive).
Do not select N (Neutral) while driving. Doing so removes engine braking, which can increase the risk of an accident, and may also damage the transmission.
Keep your foot off the brake pedal when braking is not required. Even light, continuous pedal pressure can overheat the brakes, accelerate wear and potentially cause brake failure.
Pressing the accelerator and brake pedals together may activate a control function that reduces engine power to help the vehicle slow down. Acceleration resumes once the brake pedal is released.
In Manual shift mode, reduce vehicle speed before requesting a lower gear. The transmission may refuse the downshift if the resulting engine rpm would fall outside its permitted operating range.
Always apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle. Selecting N (Neutral) does not secure the vehicle or prevent it from rolling.
Use particular care on slippery surfaces, especially when braking, accelerating or changing gear. Abrupt changes in speed can cause the driven wheels to lose traction, leading to a loss of control and an accident.
Apply and release the accelerator smoothly. Progressive pedal movements help your Kia Picanto deliver its best balance of driving performance and fuel economy.
WARNING
Follow these precautions to reduce the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
Always wear your seat belt correctly. In a collision, an unrestrained occupant is significantly more likely to suffer serious or fatal injuries than someone wearing a properly fastened seat belt.
Avoid taking corners or making turns at high speed. Reduce speed before entering the turn to help maintain control.
Use smooth steering movements. Avoid sudden lane changes and fast, sharp turns that can unsettle the vehicle.
Losing control at highway speeds greatly increases the risk of a rollover.
A loss of control often occurs when two or more wheels leave the road surface and the driver applies excessive steering to return. Avoid overcorrecting if the vehicle runs off the roadway.
If your vehicle leaves the roadway, do not steer sharply back towards the traffic lanes. Slow down first, then guide the vehicle back with a controlled steering movement.
Transmission ranges. Parking
Automatic Transmission: (if equipped)WARNING: Position the seatbelt height adjuster so that the seatbelt rests across the middle of your shoulder. Failure to adjust the seatbelt correctly could reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of injury in a crash.
