A: Collision warning
![]() |
If the system detects a vehicle approaching from either side while the Kia Picanto is reversing, it warns the driver with an indicator in the outside rear-view mirror, a message on the instrument cluster and an audible alert. A warning is also shown on the infotainment screen.
The collision warning operates only when all of these conditions are met:
The gear is shifted to R (Reverse) while the vehicle is travelling below 8 km/h (5 mph).
The approaching vehicle is within approximately 25 m (82 ft) of either side of the Kia Picanto.
The approaching vehicle is travelling above 5 km/h (3 mph).
NOTE
When the operating conditions are met, the system may warn you about a vehicle approaching from behind even if the Kia Picanto is stationary.
Instrument cluster graphics and colours may vary depending on the cluster type or selected theme.

A: Emergency braking
![]() |
When emergency braking assistance is triggered, the driver receives a warning through the outside rear-view mirror indicator, an instrument cluster message and an audible alert. The warning is also displayed on the infotainment screen.
If a vehicle approaches from the left or right and the system identifies an imminent collision risk, it may assist with braking to help prevent an impact.
Emergency braking assistance operates only when all of these conditions are met:
The gear is shifted to R (Reverse) while the Kia Picanto is travelling below 8 km/h (5 mph).
The approaching vehicle is within approximately 1.5 m (5 ft) of either side of the vehicle.
The approaching vehicle is travelling above 5 km/h (3 mph).
WARNING
Brake control ends when any of the following conditions involving the vehicle approaching from the rear left or right is met:
The approaching vehicle moves outside the detection range.
The approaching vehicle passes behind the Kia Picanto.
The approaching vehicle is no longer moving towards your vehicle.
The approaching vehicle slows down.
The driver presses the brake pedal firmly enough to provide sufficient braking force.

A: Drive carefully |
If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist brings the Kia Picanto to a stop with emergency braking, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster.
For safety, press the brake pedal immediately and check the area around the vehicle before moving again.
Brake control ends approximately two seconds after the system has stopped the vehicle.
During emergency braking, the system automatically cancels its braking control if the driver presses the brake pedal excessively.
WARNING
For safety, change the system settings only after parking the Kia Picanto in a safe location.
If another function displays a warning message or sounds an alert, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist message or audible warning may not appear or sound.
Noise around the vehicle may make the system’s audible warning difficult to hear.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate if the driver presses the brake pedal to avoid a collision.
The system may stop the vehicle suddenly. This could injure occupants or cause unsecured items to move. Wear your seat belt and secure loose objects inside the Kia Picanto.
If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist has a fault, the vehicle’s basic braking system will continue to operate.
WARNING
While the system is providing braking assistance, it automatically cancels braking control if the driver presses the accelerator pedal excessively.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist cannot operate in every situation or prevent every collision.
Depending on road and driving conditions, the system may warn you late or may not issue a warning.
The driver remains responsible for controlling the Kia Picanto. Do not rely solely on this system. Maintain a safe braking distance and, when needed, press the brake pedal to slow down or stop.
Never deliberately attempt to activate Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist near people, animals or objects. Doing so could cause serious injury or death.
WARNING
Brake assistance may not work correctly, depending on the status of ESC (Electronic Stability Control). In the following situations, the system provides a warning only:
The ESC warning light is illuminated.
ESC is operating to control the vehicle through another function.
NOTE
If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist applies the brakes, press the brake pedal immediately and check the area around the vehicle.
After shifting into R (Reverse), braking assistance operates once for an approaching vehicle on each side.
