A: Check Rear Cross-Traffic Safety system |
If Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist in the Kia Picanto detects a fault, a message appears on the
instrument cluster for several seconds and the Master warning light (
) illuminates.
If this happens, have the function inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

A: Check side view mirror warning light |
If an outside rear-view mirror warning light is not working correctly, a message appears on the instrument cluster
for several seconds and the Master warning light (
) illuminates.
Have the function inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist disabled
![]() |
A: Rear Cross-Traffic Safety system disabled. Radar blocked. |
Snow, rain or other material covering the rear bumper around a rear-side radar sensor can reduce its ability to detect approaching vehicles. A trailer, carrier or similar attachment may also interfere with detection, temporarily limiting or disabling Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.
If this occurs, a warning message appears on the Kia Picanto’s instrument cluster.
Once the material or attachment has been removed, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist should operate normally.
If the system still does not work correctly after the obstruction or attachment has been removed, have it inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
CAUTION
Switch off Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist before installing or removing a trailer, carrier or other attachment. Switch the function on again when the work is complete.
WARNING
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not work correctly even if no warning message appears on the instrument cluster.
The system may not operate correctly immediately after the Kia Picanto is switched on if there are no detectable objects nearby, such as in open terrain.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not work as expected in certain situations. Its ability to detect approaching vehicles or provide braking assistance can be affected by the following conditions:
Reversing out of an area where trees or grass are overgrown.
Reversing out onto a wet road.
The approaching vehicle is travelling unusually fast or slowly.
Braking assistance may also be limited in the following conditions. Stay alert and be ready to control the Kia Picanto yourself:
The vehicle shakes severely while travelling over a bumpy or uneven road, or over a concrete repair patch.
The road is slippery because of snow, standing water, ice or similar conditions.
A tyre is underinflated or damaged.
The braking system has been modified.
NOTE
For further information about rear corner radar limitations, refer to the section on Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA).
WARNING
Reversing near a vehicle or structure
|
A: Structure
When the Kia Picanto is near another vehicle or a structure, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may have difficulty detecting traffic approaching from the left or right. It might not warn you or apply braking assistance when needed.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
Reversing in a complex parking area
|
The system may detect vehicles manoeuvring near the Kia Picanto, such as a vehicle pulling out from an adjacent space, parking or leaving behind your vehicle, or approaching while turning.
As a result, it may issue an unnecessary warning or apply the brakes when there is no collision risk.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
Reversing out of a diagonal parking space
|
A: Vehicle
When reversing diagonally, the system may have difficulty detecting vehicles approaching from either side. It might not warn you or provide braking assistance when needed.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
Reversing on or near a slope
|
On or near an uphill or downhill slope, the system may not detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right. In these conditions, it might not warn you or provide braking assistance when needed.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
Reversing into a space beside a structure
|
A: Structure
B: Wall
When reversing into a parking space beside or in front of a wall or other structure, the system may mistake a vehicle passing in front of the Kia Picanto for a collision risk. It may then issue an unnecessary warning or apply the brakes.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
Reversing into a space with traffic passing behind
|
When reversing into a parking space, the system may detect vehicles passing behind the Kia Picanto and issue an unnecessary warning or apply the brakes.
Check the area around the vehicle whenever you reverse.
WARNING
Switch off Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist when towing a trailer or another vehicle.
Strong electromagnetic waves may interfere with the system and affect its operation.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be unavailable for approximately three seconds after the Kia Picanto is started or while the rear corner radars are initializing.
Restarting the vehicle may not restore normal operation if the sensors remain blocked or the system fault persists.

Reverse Parking Distance Warning (PDW): (if equipped)Use the key blade to start your vehicle and unlock or lock the driver door from outside your vehicle. The integrated keyhead transmitter functions as a programmed ignition key that operates all the locks and starts your vehicle, as well as a remote control.
