Reverse Parking Distance Warning uses front and rear ultrasonic sensors to detect nearby people, animals and objects. It provides a warning when the Kia Picanto is stationary or moving slowly in reverse and an obstacle is within the system’s detection range.

A: Driver Assistance
With the Kia Picanto switched on, adjust Warning Methods in the instrument cluster by selecting User Settings > Driver Assistance > Warning Methods. On the infotainment system, select Setup > Vehicle > Driver Assistance > Warning Methods. The available setting is:
Warning Volume: Adjusts the volume of the warning sound.
TIP
Warning Methods may apply to multiple driver assistance functions. Check the settings for each function and adjust them as needed.
After the vehicle is restarted, Warning Methods retains the last selected setting.
This setting menu may not be available on every vehicle specification.
Reverse Parking Distance Warning operates when:
The Kia Picanto is shifted into R (Reverse).
NOTE
When the Kia Picanto is travelling below 10 km/h (6 mph), Parking Distance Warning detects objects behind the vehicle and near its rear corners, then alerts the driver.

When an ultrasonic sensor detects a person, animal or object within its sensing range, the corresponding indicator appears and an audible warning sounds.
If the system detects more than two objects at once, the audible warning corresponds to the closest one.
The indicator shown in the illustration may differ in shape from the one in the vehicle.

A: Check Driver Assistance system. |
If Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist or a related function or component has a problem, a warning message appears on the Kia Picanto’s instrument cluster.
You can view details of the warning in the service message section of the cluster’s utility information display. If the function continues to work incorrectly, Kia recommends having it inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
NOTE
If a malfunction occurs while Parking Distance Warning is operating, the Master warning light (
) appears in the direction of the
affected sensor.
Sensor performance may be reduced or interrupted in these situations:
Moisture on a sensor has frozen.
A sensor is covered by snow, water or other material. Parking Distance Warning should operate normally again once the material has been removed.
The surrounding temperature is extremely high or low.
A sensor or sensor assembly has been disassembled.
A sensor surface has been pressed hard or struck by a hard object.
A sensor surface has been scratched by a sharp object.
A high-pressure washer has been directed at a sensor or the area around it.
Parking Distance Warning may also malfunction under the following conditions:
Heavy rain or water spray is present.
Water is running over a sensor surface.
Signals from another vehicle’s sensors interfere with the system.
A sensor is covered with snow or ice.
The vehicle is travelling over an uneven or gravel road, or through bushes.
Equipment that emits ultrasonic waves is near a sensor.
The licence plate has been installed somewhere other than its original position.
The bumper height or ultrasonic sensor installation has been changed.
Equipment or accessories have been fitted beside the ultrasonic sensors.
The system may not detect the following objects:
Thin or sharp objects, such as ropes, chains or narrow poles.
Narrow objects, including the corners of square columns.
Objects less than 100 cm (40 in.) long and less than 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter.
Objects that absorb ultrasonic frequencies, such as clothing, spongy materials or snow.
People, animals or objects that are very close to the ultrasonic sensors.
WARNING
Parking Distance Warning is a supplementary aid, and its operation can be affected by the surroundings and other conditions. The driver must check the area in front of and behind the Kia Picanto before and while parking.
The new vehicle warranty does not cover accidents or vehicle damage resulting from a Parking Distance Warning malfunction.
Pay particular attention near objects, pedestrians and especially children. Detection can be limited by an object’s distance, size or material.
Parking Distance Warning does not issue alerts in a fixed detection order. The warning can vary with vehicle speed and the shape of a person, animal or object.
If Parking Distance Warning does not work correctly, Kia recommends having it inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
