Kia Picanto: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist operation / Junction Turning function

The Junction Turning function in the Kia Picanto provides collision alerts and braking assistance through the following stages, depending on the detected risk and operating conditions:

• Collision Warning to draw your attention to a potential impact.

• Emergency Braking to help avoid a collision with oncoming traffic.

• Stopping the vehicle and ending automatic brake control.

Collision Warning

A: Collision Warning

When Collision Warning activates, the Forward Safety warning light () flashes, a message appears in the instrument cluster and an audible warning sounds. Together, these alerts indicate that the system has identified a potential collision risk.

Collision Warning can activate when your vehicle and the oncoming road user are travelling within the following speed ranges:

• Your driving speed: Approximately 10–30 km/h (6–19 mph).

• Oncoming vehicle or powered two-wheeler speed: Approximately 30–70 km/h (19–44 mph).

Emergency Braking

A: Emergency Braking

During Emergency Braking, the Forward Safety warning light () flashes alongside a displayed warning message and an audible alert. The system also activates braking assistance to help avoid a collision with the detected oncoming vehicle or powered two-wheeler.

Emergency Braking can operate under the following speed conditions when the other requirements for intervention are satisfied:

• Your driving speed: 10–30 km/h (6–19 mph).

• Oncoming vehicle or powered two-wheeler speed: Approximately 30–70 km/h (19–44 mph).

Stopping vehicle and ending brake control

A: Drive carefully

If emergency braking brings your Kia Picanto to a complete stop, the instrument cluster displays the “Drive carefully” message.

Immediately depress the brake pedal to keep the vehicle stationary and check the surrounding traffic. Take control of the stop rather than relying on the system to continue holding the brakes.

• Automatic brake control ends approximately 2 seconds after emergency braking has stopped the vehicle. Continue holding the brake pedal as needed to prevent unintended movement.

NOTE

The audible alert during Collision Warning and Emergency Braking can be silenced by pressing the hazard warning light switch.
