The driver’s door contains the master power window controls for your Kia Picanto, together with the power window lock switch. These controls allow the driver to operate the windows and restrict the use of the rear passenger window switches.
Up/down window
|
To open a window, press the front portion of its switch down to the first detent position (5). To close it, pull the same portion upwards to the first detent. Hold the switch in the required direction while adjusting the window, then release it when the glass reaches the desired position.
Auto up/down window: (if equipped)
|
Briefly press or pull the power window switch fully to the second detent position (6) to lower or raise the window completely. The window continues moving after you release the switch. To stop it partway, briefly operate the switch in the opposite direction to the window’s movement, then release it.
If the automatic window function does not operate correctly, reset the system using the following procedure:
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Close the window completely. Once the glass is fully closed, continue holding the window switch upwards for at least one second to complete the reset.
Automatic reversal (if equipped)
|
If an object or part of the body obstructs the window as it rises and the system detects the resistance, upward movement stops. The window then lowers approximately 30 cm (11.8 in), providing space for the obstruction to be removed.
If resistance is detected while the power window switch is held continuously upwards, the window stops rising and lowers approximately 2.5 cm (1 in). If you pull and hold the switch upwards again within five seconds of this reversal, the automatic reversal function will not operate during that closing attempt. Clear the obstruction before operating the switch again.
NOTE
The driver’s window automatic reversal feature is active only when the auto up function is selected by pulling the switch fully upwards. It does not operate when the window is raised using the halfway, or first-detent, switch position. Select the operating mode carefully and always check the window opening yourself.
WARNING
Before raising any window, check that its path is clear of people and objects. Automatic reversal does not replace this check and cannot prevent every injury or instance of vehicle damage.
An object less than 4 mm (0.16 in) in diameter caught between the glass and the upper window channel may not create enough resistance for the system to detect it. In that situation, the window may continue closing without stopping or reversing.
WARNING
Automatic reversal is inactive while the power window system is being reset. Do not rely on obstruction detection during the reset procedure.
Before closing the window, make sure all body parts and other objects are safely clear of the glass and its closing path. This is essential to avoid injury or damage while the protective function is unavailable.
|
To disable the switches on the rear passenger doors, press the power window lock button on the driver’s door into the LOCK position. The button remains pressed in this position, preventing rear passengers from operating their windows with their individual switches.
With the lock button pressed, the driver’s master controls can still operate all power windows. The driver therefore retains control of the Kia Picanto windows while the rear door switches are disabled.
CAUTION
Operate one window at a time rather than opening or closing two or more simultaneously. This helps prevent damage to the power window system and supports the service life of its fuse.
Never operate the driver’s master switch and the corresponding individual door switch in opposite directions at the same time. Conflicting commands will stop the window, preventing it from opening or closing while both controls are being used this way.
WARNING
Windows
Never leave the ignition key inside the vehicle with unsupervised children, particularly while the engine is running. Access to the key and controls creates a serious risk of unintended operation.
Never leave a child unattended in your Kia Picanto. Even a very young child may accidentally cause the vehicle to move, become trapped in a window or operate controls in a way that injures themselves or another person.
Before closing a window, double-check that everyone’s arms, hands, head and other body parts are clear. Also remove any object that could become trapped as the glass rises.
Do not allow children to play with the power windows. Keep the driver’s power window lock button pressed in the LOCK position to disable the rear passenger switches. Accidental window operation by a child can cause serious injury.
Do not put your face or arms through an open window while the vehicle is moving. Keep your body inside the passenger compartment throughout the journey.
