The driver’s and front passenger’s seats in the Kia Picanto are fitted with headrests for occupant safety and comfort. Each headrest should be positioned to suit the person using the seat.
As well as providing comfortable support, a correctly adjusted headrest helps protect the occupant’s head and neck during a collision.
WARNING
For the most effective protection in an accident, position the middle of the headrest at the same height as the centre of gravity of the occupant’s head.
For most people, this is approximately level with the top of the eyes. Position the headrest as close to the head as possible. Avoid using a cushion that holds the body away from the seatback, as it can increase the distance between the head and headrest.
Do not drive with the headrests removed. Occupants may suffer severe injuries in a collision without them. Correctly positioned headrests can help protect against neck injuries.
Never adjust the driver’s headrest while the vehicle is moving. Set its position before driving.
CAUTION
When the rear seats are unoccupied, lower their headrests to the lowest position. Raised rear headrests can restrict the driver’s view behind the vehicle.
|
To raise the headrest, pull it upwards to the desired position (1). To lower it, press and hold the release button (2) on the headrest support, then guide the headrest down to the required height (3).
CAUTION
If you move the seatback forwards while both the headrest and seat cushion are raised, the headrest may contact the sunvisor or another interior component. Watch the clearance as the seatback moves to avoid contact.
|
To remove the headrest:
Use the recline lever (1) to recline the seatback (2).
Raise the headrest to its highest available position.
Press the headrest release button (3) while pulling the headrest upwards (4) and out of its supports.
|
WARNING
Never allow anyone to travel in a seat with its headrest removed. Refit and correctly adjust the headrest before the seat is occupied.
To reinstall the headrest:
Press the release button (1) while inserting the headrest posts (2) into their corresponding support holes.
Use the recline lever (3) to adjust the seatback (4) to the required angle.
Set the headrest to the appropriate height for the occupant and check its position.
|
WARNING
After reinstalling and adjusting the headrest, always confirm that it has locked securely into position. Do not leave it resting between locking positions.
|
The headrest can be moved forwards through four positions. Pull it towards you until it engages at the required detent. To return it to the rearmost position, pull it fully forwards to the foremost position, then release it. Select a position that brings the headrest close enough to support the head and neck properly.
WARNING
A gap may open between the seat and the headrest release button when someone sits down or pushes or pulls the seat. Keep fingers and other body parts clear of this area to prevent them from becoming trapped.
|
Pull the armrest out from the driver’s seatback when you want to use it. After use, return it to its original stowed position.
WARNING
Do not deploy or stow the armrest while driving. Reaching for or adjusting it can distract you from controlling the vehicle and lead to a serious accident.

Where fitted, a seatback pocket is located on the rear of the front passenger’s or driver’s backrest. Its location allows access from the rear seating area of your Kia Picanto.
WARNING
Seatback pockets
Do not store heavy or sharp objects in a seatback pocket. During a collision, they can come out of the pocket and strike occupants, causing injury.
