Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Disconnect the batteries.
    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Drain the cooling system.
    Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03D Engine Cooling - 3.3L Duratec-V6 – Hybrid (BP), General Procedures).
  1. Remove the air cleaner.
    Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12C Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 3.3L Duratec-V6/3.3L Duratec-V6 – Hybrid (BP), Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the RHF wheel and tire assembly.
    Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04A Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the pushpins and the RHF inner splash shield.
  1. NOTICE: When installing the B+ terminal nut to the starter generator, finger-start the nut before tightening or component damage may occur.

    Position the starter generator B+ wire terminal protective cover aside, remove the nut and position the starter generator B+ wire aside. Disconnect the starter generator electrical connector. Detach the retainer and position the wire harness aside.
    Torque: 155 lb.in (17.5 Nm)
  1. Detach the coolant hose retainers, remove the bolts and the air cleaner bracket.
    Torque: 93 lb.in (10.5 Nm)
  1. Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses from the thermostat housing.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector, release the clamp and disconnect the heater hose from the cabin heater coolant pump.
    1. Using a wrench, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise.
    1. Install a holding pin.
  1. NOTICE: After installation, make sure the accessory drive belt is correctly seated on all the pulleys, if the belt is not properly seated on all of the pulleys component damage will occur.

    1. Using a breaker bar and torx bit, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise.
      Use the General Equipment: Torx Bit Socket
    1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  1. Detach the wire harness retainer, remove the bolts and position the cabin heater coolant pump aside.
    Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
  1. Remove the bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner assembly.
    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
  1. Detach the wire harness retainer from the starter generator.
    1. Remove the starter generator nut.
      Torque: 35 lb.ft (47.5 Nm)
    1. Remove the starter generator bolt.
      Torque: 35 lb.ft (47.5 Nm)
    1. Remove the stud and the starter generator.
      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
