Ford Explorer: Front Drive Halfshafts / Removal and Installation - Intermediate Shaft
Removal

Remove the front halfshaft.
Refer to: Halfshaft (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

Remove the engine mount LH.
Refer to: Engine Mount LH (303-01 Engine)

Detach the front axle assembly vent hose.
-
Remove the bolts and the intermediate shaft assembly.
-
Remove and discard the intermediate shaft O-ring.
Installation

NOTE:
Make sure that the mating surface is free of corrosion and foreign material.
Clean and inspect the O-ring mating surface.

NOTE:
Make sure the new component is installed.
Install a new intermediate shaft O-ring.

NOTE:
Make sure that the mating surface and the bore is
free of corrosion and foreign material, avoid particles getting into the
bore.
Clean and inspect the engine oil pan at intermediate shaft mating surface.

NOTE:
Make sure that the mating surface is free of corrosion and foreign material.
Clean the intermediate shaft.

Install the intermediate shaft assembly and the bolts.
Torque:
26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

Attach the front axle assembly vent hose.
-
Install the engine mount LH.
Refer to: Engine Mount LH (303-01 Engine)

Install the front halfshaft.
Refer to: Halfshaft (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

The heated second row seat module is located under the RH (right hand) second row seat cushion frame.
Remove the heated second row seat module.
Disconnect the electrical connectors...
