Vehicle modifications

Do not modify your vehicle. Changes to its original specification can affect performance, safety or durability, and may also breach government requirements governing vehicle safety and exhaust emissions. Consider these consequences before making alterations to the Kia Picanto or its equipment.

Damage or performance problems resulting from a modification may not be covered by the vehicle warranty. This applies to problems attributable to the alteration, including those that affect the operation of other vehicle components.

  • Unauthorised electronic devices can interfere with normal vehicle operation and may cause wiring damage, battery discharge or fire. To protect occupants and the vehicle’s electrical system, do not use electronic devices that have not been authorised for the vehicle.

Vehicle break-In process

A few straightforward precautions during the first 1,000 km (600 miles) can help support the long-term performance, fuel economy and service life of your Kia Picanto. During this initial running-in period, follow the driving guidance below and observe the separate restrictions that extend beyond the first 1,000 km.

  • Do not race the engine. Avoid unnecessarily high engine speeds while the vehicle is being run in.

  • While driving, keep engine speed within 3,000 rpm. The abbreviation rpm means revolutions per minute and refers to engine speed rather than road speed.

  • Avoid maintaining one constant speed for extended periods, whether travelling quickly or slowly. Varying engine speed during normal driving is necessary to help the engine run in properly.

  • Avoid hard braking except when an emergency requires it. Allowing the brakes to bed in through normal use helps their contact surfaces seat properly; emergency stopping must always take priority when necessary.

  • Do not tow a trailer during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles) of operation. This restriction continues beyond the initial 1,000 km (600-mile) running-in period.

  • Fuel economy and engine performance may change as the vehicle runs in and may stabilise after approximately 6,000 km (4,000 miles). A new engine may also consume more oil during the running-in period, so initial consumption may differ from what you experience after this stage.
