WARNING

Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of serious injury or death:

  • Always check the area around the vehicle for people before selecting D (Drive) or R (Reverse). Pay particular attention to children, who may be difficult to see close to the vehicle.

  • Before leaving the driver’s seat, select N (Neutral), apply the parking brake, and place the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button in LOCK/OFF. Failure to follow these precautions may allow sudden, unexpected vehicle movement.

  • Do not apply engine braking abruptly by shifting rapidly from a higher gear to a lower gear on slippery roads. The resulting change in braking force may cause the vehicle to skid and lead to an accident.

With the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button in ON, the instrument cluster indicator displays the selected shift lever position. Check this display when selecting a transmission position.

WARNING

  • After stopping the vehicle, always select N (Neutral), apply the parking brake and switch off the engine before leaving it.

  • Never rely on N (Neutral) to secure the vehicle. Neutral is not a substitute for the parking brake.
