Hardwired Inputs
The IPC requires hardwired inputs from components that are not on the CAN. These components are required for specific IPC functions.

Networked Input Messages and Default States
NOTE: Whenever a network message is suspected as missing and confirmed by a missing message DTC (U-code), it is important to look for other symptoms that can also be present in the IPC and throughout the vehicle. Once a DTC sets in the IPC, it is helpful to review the complete message list to determine which other modules also rely on the same message and run the self-test for those modules. If the message is missing from other modules, the same or similar lost communication DTC can also be set in those modules. Confirmation of missing messages common to multiple modules can indicate the originating module is the source of the concern or the communication network may be faulted.
The IPC uses input messages from other modules to control the gauges, informational indicators, warning indicators and message center message displays over the communication networks. The IPC receives all networked data over the HS-CAN3.
The vehicle uses 4 communication networks to transmit the data used by the IPC.

All messaged inputs to the IPC from other networks are received from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM, as the name implies, acts as a gateway to convert messages from one of the other communicating networks to the HS-CAN3, which is recognized by the IPC.
Network messages can drop out or be missing for a variety of reasons, such as high network traffic on the bus. The IPC incorporates a defined strategy for handling missing network messages based on time. The required time for a network message to be missing differs between the various gauges, indicators and message center displays. The strategy is basically the same for all indication outputs (gauges, indicators or chimes), but differs in the length of time required for the network message to be missing. If a required network message is missing or invalid for less than the programmed length of time, the gauge, indicator or message center display that requires the network message remains at the last commanded state based upon the last network message received. If the messaged input is missing for longer than the programmed length of time, the IPC output (gauge, indicator) reacts according to a pre-defined default action.
For example, if the stability-traction control indicator request network message is missing for less than 5 seconds, and the stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon) was on, the indicator remains in the on state until the next network message is received. If the network message remains missing or invalid for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets a U-code DTC and the IPC output becomes a default action for the indicator or gauge. The indicator may default on/off or the gauge may default to the rest position.
Each indicator or gauge utilizes a different default strategy depending on the nature of the indication. Refer to the diagnostic overview descriptions located before each pinpoint test for further descriptions of the default action specific to each indicator or gauge. If the missing messaged input to the IPC returns at any time, the normal function of the gauge, indicator or message center display resumes.

Startup-Shutdown
The IPC provides a startup/shutdown sequence also known as a welcome/goodbye strategy. The IPC initiates and follows a progressive strategy providing increasing IPC functionality from IPC wake up to ready to drive status. This sequence begins at RKE unlock or driver door open through the ignition RUN state. During this period, the IPC provides increasing functionality from backlighting or illuminating gauge rings, gauge pointers, illuminating the PRNDL or PRNDM, backlighting of the message center display, displaying a message center splash screen, gauge and LED prove out, gauge sweep and finally normal IPC operation.
MyKey®
The MyKey® feature allows the customer to program a restricted driving mode that is tied to one or more keys known as a MyKey® key. The following features are provided by the IPC when a MyKey® key is being used:

Configuration
The IPC
contains items that are configurable. Most of the configurable items
(configurable parameters) are customer preference items which can be set
with a diagnostic scan tool. The remaining configurable items can only
be set through the vehicle configuration parameters.

Prove-Out
The IPC carries out a display prove-out to verify the gauges function and all module controlled warning indicator lamps and monitored systems are functioning correctly within the IPC. The IPC provides a timed prove-out of some indicators while other indicators illuminate upon engine start up or have no prove-out. When the ignition is cycled on, the indicators illuminate to prove-out according to the following table.

Dealer Test Mode (Engineering Test Mode)
To enter the IPC engineering test mode or dealer test mode, begin with the ignition off. Press and hold the RH steering wheel switch OK button. For push-button start vehicles, place the ignition on and continue to hold the button for 5-8 seconds until the display indicates Test or Gauge Sweep. For key ignition vehicles, place the ignition in the key on position, and wait 5-8 seconds until the display indicates Test or Gauge Sweep. Press the up or down arrow buttons to navigate through each of the display windows. To exit the IPC dealer test mode, press and hold the OK button for 5-8 seconds or place the ignition in off. Each down arrow button press advances the viewing window to the next set of items.
Analog Gauges
Fuel Gauge
The IPC sends a reference voltage to the fuel level sender. As the fuel level changes, a float actuates the variable resistor fuel level sender, raising or lowering the fuel level signal voltage. The IPC monitors the changes in voltage from the fuel level sender and sends a fuel level data message to the PCM through the GWM to calculate the fuel level.
The PCM calculates the fuel level based on current fuel in the fuel tank and the tank size. The PCM sends the fuel level display message to the IPC through the GWM to activate the needle in the fuel gauge.
After a fuel fill up, the time for the fuel gauge to move from empty (E) to full (F) can range from 2 seconds to 55 minutes depending on which operating mode the fuel gauge is in.
The IPC uses 4 different operating modes to calculate the fuel level:
The default fuel gauge mode is called the anti-slosh mode. To prevent fuel gauge changes from fuel slosh (gauge instability due to changes in fuel sensor readings caused by fuel moving around in the tank), the fuel gauge takes approximately 40 minutes to go from empty (E) to full (F).
The key off fueling mode (2 seconds to read empty [E] to full [F]) requires 3 conditions to be met:
If these conditions are not met, the fuel gauge stays in the anti-slosh mode, which results in a slow to read full (F) event.
The key ON fueling mode (approximately 60 seconds to read empty [E] to full [F]) requires the following conditions be met:
In key ON fueling mode, a 30-second timer activates after the transmission is put into the P or N position. When the 30-second time has elapsed and at least 9% of the vehicle's fuel capacity has been added, the fuel gauge response time is 60 seconds to read from empty (E) to full (F). When the transmission is shifted out of P or N, the fuel gauge strategy reverts to the anti-slosh mode. The key ON fueling mode prevents slow to read full events from happening if the customer refuels the vehicle with the ignition in the RUN mode.
Speedometer
The IPC receives the vehicle speed data from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the vehicle speed message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1. The PCM receives the wheel speed data from the ABS module. The PCM uses tire size stored in the vehicle configuration file along with wheel speed inputs to generate a vehicle speed signal.
Tachometer
The IPC receives the engine RPM data message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine RPM data message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Temperature Gauge
The IPC uses 2 messages to control the temperature gauge. The first is the engine coolant temperature data, which provides the current engine coolant temperature input to the PCM. The second message is the engine overheat indication request, which is sent by the PCM to the IPC when an overheating condition exists. When the IPC receives the engine overheat indication request message, the IPC sends the temperature gauge to full hot and turns on the over-temperature warning indicator.
The IPC receives all the temperature gauge inputs from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine coolant temperature data and the engine overheat indication request messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Virtual Gauges
AWD
The AWD gauge displays the level of power applied to each wheel independently. The AWD system is almost always active and is transferring torque whenever the vehicle is accelerating, boosting output when wheels are slipping and shutting off on the highway to conserve fuel. The IPC receives the AWD wheel lock display message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the AWD wheel lock display message from the AWD module over the HS-CAN1.
As power is applied to the wheels, the area directly in front (front wheels) or rear (rear wheels) of each displayed wheel begins to fill in. The lowest power displayed is the closest to the wheel. As the amount of power sent to the wheels increases, the area fills in either forward (front wheels) or rearward (rear wheels) of the wheels.

The PCM receives the wheel speed data from the ABS module. The PCM uses tire size stored in the vehicle configuration file along with wheel speed inputs to generate a vehicle speed signal.
The IPC provides a tolerance that allows the speed indication to display between 3% below and 7% above the actual vehicle speed. This means that with an actual vehicle speed of 97 km/h (60 mph), the speedometer can indicate between 94-103 km/h (58-64 mph). Incorrect axle ratio, tire size or tire size configuration can potentially affect the speedometer accuracy.
Tachometer
The IPC receives the engine RPM data message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine RPM data message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Temperature Gauge
The IPC uses 2 messages to control the temperature gauge. The first is the engine coolant temperature data, which provides the current engine coolant temperature input to the PCM. The second message is the engine overheat indication request, which is sent by the PCM to the IPC when an overheating condition exists. When the IPC receives the engine overheat indication request message, the IPC sends the temperature gauge to full hot and turns on the over-temperature warning indicator.
The IPC receives all the temperature gauge inputs from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine coolant temperature data and the engine overheat indication request messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Hybrid Only Gauge
High Voltage Battery Gauge (PHEV)
The high voltage battery gauge displays the total percentage of battery charge available associated with electric only driving range. A full fill display indicates the total amount of energy obtained from an external charging source (vehicle plugged in). When the fill display indicates empty, the powertrain system will automatically switch to operating in hybrid mode.
The IPC receives the battery state of charge data message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the battery state of charge data message from the BECM over the HS-CAN1.
Indicators and RTT Indicators
ABS Warning
The IPC receives the ABS warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the ABS warning indicator request message from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2. If a fault condition exists in the ABS, the ABS module sends the ABS warning indicator request message to either flash or illuminate the ABS warning indicator or RTT indicator.

ABS/Brake/Stability-Traction Control System Indication
The brake/stability-traction control system indication is controlled almost entirely by the ABS module. The ABS module can illuminate multiple indicators for various fault conditions. The following table provides a summary of the basic fault conditions and the indicators that are illuminated for each condition.

Adaptive Cruise Control
The IPC provides a cruise control RTT indicator that appears as an image depicting a vehicle on the road with lines indicating the selected following distance to the vehicle in front. The IPC receives the adaptive cruise control follow mode display and adaptive cruise control gap display messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the adaptive cruise control follow mode display and adaptive cruise control gap display messages from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Airbag Warning
The IPC receives the airbag warning indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the airbag indicator request from the RCM over the HS-CAN2. If a SRS concern is detected, the RCM sets a DTC and the IPC illuminates the airbag warning indicator or RTT indicator.
Auto High Beam
The IPC provides the auto high beam RTT indicator to indicate the auto high beam is active. The IPC receives the auto high beam indication request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the auto high beam indication request message from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Auto Hold
The IPC provides the auto hold RTT indicator to indicate the state of the auto hold feature. The auto hold feature holds a vehicle stationary once it has come to a complete stop, using the brakes, allowing the driver to remove his or her foot from the brake pedal. The IPC receives the auto hold mode indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the auto hold mode indicator request message from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2.
Auto Stop-Start
The IPC provides the auto stop-start indicator or RTT indicator, along with multiple messages displayed throughout the auto stop-start system operation, to inform the driver of the system status and to provide direction when driver intervention is required. The IPC receives the stop-start standby indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the stop-start standby indicator request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
The auto stop-start indicator informs the driver of the following states:

Blind Spot Monitoring System (BLIS®) Off
The IPC provides a BLIS off RTT indicator to inform the driver the BLIS is turned off. The IPC receives the CTA left status, CTA right status, side obstacle detect status-left and side obstacle detect status-right messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the CTA left status and side obstacle detect status-left status from the SODL, and the CTA right status and side obstacle detect status-right messages from the SODR over the MS-CAN.
Brake Warning
The brake warning indicator or RTT indicator informs the driver the brake fluid level is low, there is a failure in the base brake system or the parking brake is applied. The IPC uses messaged inputs to control the brake warning indicator or RTT indicator.
The IPC receives the brake lamp request, brake (red) warning indicator request and the brake warning indicator request messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.
The GWM receives the brake lamp request and brake (red) warning indicator request from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2.
The GWM receives the brake warning indicator request from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.

Charge Warning (12-Volt Battery)
The IPC provides a charging system indicator or RTT indicator along with message displays indicating the status of the charging system. When a fault is present in the charging system, the BCM sends the battery low state of charge message to display message center warning messages and the charging system indicator. The IPC receives the battery low state of charge message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the battery low state of charge message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
The IPC provides a charging system RTT indicator along with message displays indicating the status of the charging system. When a fault is present in the charging system, the BCM sends the battery low state of charge message to display message center warning messages and the charging system RTT indicator.
Cruise Control
The IPC uses the following messaged inputs to control the cruise control RTT indicator and set speed display:
The IPC receives the cruise control messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the cruise control messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Distance Alert
The IPC provides a graphical display in the message center of the time gap to the vehicle traveling in the same direction, when the cruise control or adaptive cruise control is switched off. The IPC receives the forward distance alert warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the forward distance alert warning indicator request message from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Door, Liftgate, Hood Ajar
The IPC provides a door ajar indicator or RTT indicator along with message displays to indicate the status of the doors, liftgate and hood. The BCM monitors each of the ajar inputs (driver, passenger, left rear, right rear, liftgate and hood) and sends a door ajar status, liftgate ajar status or hood ajar status message to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The IPC receives the door ajar, liftgate ajar or hood ajar status messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3 to display the door ajar indicator or the specific door, liftgate or hood ajar RTT indicator and corresponding warning message.
Drive Mode - Normal, Sport, ECO, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Sand/Snow, Trail
The IPC provides a drive mode RTT indicator when a specific drive mode is selected. The IPC receives the selectable drive mode status, selectable drive mode request and active drive mode status messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the selectable drive mode status, selectable drive mode request and active drive mode status messages from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2.
Electric Park Brake
The electric park brake indicator or RTT indicator illuminates when a fault in the electric park brake system is detected. The IPC receives the parking brake (yellow) warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the parking brake (yellow) warning indicator request message from the ABS module over the HS-CAN2.
Engine Over-Temperature Warning
The IPC provides an indicator or RTT indicator to alert the driver the engine is over temperature. The IPC receives the engine overheat indication request and the engine coolant temperature data from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the engine overheat indication request and the engine coolant temperature data message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge (PHEV)
The IPC provides an Electric Vehicle (EV) charge RTT indicator that illuminates when the driver selects the Electric Vehicle (EV) charge mode and the feature is active. The IPC receives the Electric Vehicle (EV) charge mode status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the Electric Vehicle (EV) charge mode status message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Later (PHEV)
The IPC provides an Electric Vehicle (EV) Later RTT indicator that illuminates when the driver selects Electric Vehicle (EV) Later using the Electric Vehicle (EV) selection switch. The IPC receives the electric vehicle (EV) later mode status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the electric vehicle (EV) later mode status message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Now (PHEV)
The IPC provides an Electric Vehicle (EV) Now RTT indicator that illuminates when the driver selects Electric Vehicle (EV) Now using the Electric Vehicle (EV) selection switch to turn on the Electric Vehicle (EV) mode. The IPC receives the electric vehicle (EV) now status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the electric vehicle (EV) now status message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Fog Lamp - Front
The IPC provides a front fog lamp indicator or RTT indicator to indicate when the front fog lamps are on. The IPC receives the front fog lamp indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the front fog lamp indicator request message from BCM over HS-CAN1.
Fog Lamp - Rear (Except North America)
The IPC provides a rear fog lamp indicator or RTT indicator to indicate the rear fog lamp is on. The IPC receives the rear fog lamp indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the rear fog lamp indicator request from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
Forward Collision Warning
The IPC provides a forward collision warning system indicator and message center message to warn the driver the vehicle is rapidly approaching another vehicle, and a collision event is possible. The IPC receives the forward collision warning indicator request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the forward collision warning indicator request from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Frost Warning
The IPC provides a frost warning RTT indicator when the outside air temperature is favorable for slippery road conditions. The IPC receives the outside air temperature status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the outside air temperature status message from the HVAC module over the MS-CAN.
Hazard (HEV)
The IPC provides a hazard RTT indicator to inform the driver that a vehicle hazard may exist and a powertrain shutdown may be imminent or may have already occurred. The indicator appears in the form of a triangle or a vehicle with an exclamation point (China). The IPC receives the HEV battery warning indicator request and HEV transmission warning indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the HEV battery warning indicator request and HEV transmission warning indicator request message from the SOBDMC over the HS-CAN1.
High Beam
The high beam indicator or RTT indicator informs the driver the high beams are on. The IPC receives the high beam status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the high beam status message from the BCM module over the HS-CAN1.
Hill Descent Control
The IPC provides a hill descent control RTT indicator to indicate when the HDC is in ready mode, active control mode, or in an over-temperature mode with the system cooling. The IPC receives the hill descent control indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the hill descent control indicator request message from ABS module over HS-CAN2.
Lane Keeping Aid
The IPC provides the lane keeping aid on RTT indicator or graphic to indicate the lane keeping system has been turned on or is active, and a lane keep assist RTT indicator to indicate the vehicle is drifting outside the traffic lane. The IPC receives the lane keeping system active display and the lane keeping system status display messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the lane keeping system active display and lane keeping system status display messages from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
LH/ RH Turn Signal/Hazard
When the multifunction switch is in the LH or RH turn position or if the hazard switch is on, the BCM sends the left turn lamp on request or the right turn lamp on request to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM sends the left turn lamp on request or the right turn lamp on request to the IPC over the HS-CAN3. Upon receipt of the applicable turn signal on/off message, the IPC flashes the turn signal indicator on and off.
Liftgate Unlocked (Lock Delay) - Police
The IPC provides the liftgate unlocked RTT indicator to inform the driver that the liftgate is currently unlocked due to activation of the police liftgate unlock with auto relock feature. The feature allows the officer to temporarily unlock the liftgate so the officer is able to retrieve equipment from the rear knowing that the liftgate will automatically relock to enhance security. The IPC receives the liftgate lock status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the liftgate lock status message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
Lights On
When the parking lamps are turned on, the BCM sends the park lamp status message to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The IPC receives the park lamp status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate the lights on indicator or RTT indicator.
LED Low Beam Malfunction
The LED low beam malfunction indicator or RTT indicator lluminates when the LED bulb in the headlamp is not functioning correctly. The IPC receives the headlamp low beam out message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the headlamp low beam message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning
The IPC uses the engine oil pressure warning indicator request and engine RPM data to control the low engine oil pressure indicator or RTT indicator. The engine oil pressure sensor is hardwired to the PCM. The PCM provides the engine oil pressure warning indicator status request and the engine RPM data to the GWM over the HS-CAN1. The GWM provides the engine oil pressure warning indicator status request and engine RPM data to the IPC over the HS-CAN3. The IPC requires engine RPM above 400 RPM before the message center displays the low engine oil pressure warning.
Low Fuel
To supplement the fuel gauge indication, the IPC provides the low fuel warning indicator or RTT indicator.
The IPC uses the low fuel warning indicator request message sent from the PCM through the GWM to control the low fuel indicator.
When the DTE is 120 km (75 miles) (for MyKey®) and 80 km (25 miles), 40 km (25 miles), 20 km (10 miles) and 0 km (0 miles) for all keys, the low fuel indicator illuminates.
Low Washer Fluid Level
The low washer fluid level switch is hardwired to the IPC through a single signal circuit and is grounded through a separate ground circuit. The IPC provides a reference voltage to the washer fluid level switch. When the washer fluid is low, the washer fluid level switch closes, pulling the reference voltage low. When the IPC detects the washer fluid input is an closed circuit, it illuminates the low washer fluid level RTT indicator.
MIL
The IPC receives the MIL request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the MIL request from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Overspeed Warning (Gulf Cooperative Countries [GCC])
The IPC provides an overspeed warning RTT indicator when the vehicle speed has reached or exceeded the 120 km/h (75 mph) threshold. The IPC receives the vehicle speed message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the vehicle speed message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Perimeter Alert (Police)
The IPC provides a perimeter alert RTT indicator when the perimeter alert feature has been turned on. The perimeter alert is a hard-wired input to the IPC from the high idle switch.
Powertrain Malfunction (Wrench) Warning
The IPC provides a powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator or RTT indicator to indicate transmission, Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), AWD, BCM and hybrid system (if equipped) concerns.

The GWM receives the body service required message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
The GWM receives the engine service required and the transmission service required messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.

The GWM receives the HEV service required from the SOBDMC and the battery charger service required ( PHEV) message from the BECM over the HS-CAN1.
PRNDL/PRNDM
The IPC uses the following messages to control the PRNDL or PRNDM:
The IPC receives all messaged inputs from the GWM over the HS-CAN3.
The GWM receives the transmission gear display, transmission gear display mode and vehicle speed messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
The GWM receives the ignition status, transport mode, battery shed level request and park lock control status messages from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
When the vehicle is in transport mode or during battery load shed operation, the PRNDL or PRNDM is not displayed upon entry or exit from the vehicle to prevent battery drain during longer periods of time when the vehicle is not in use, such as those experienced during vehicle transport.
For vehicles equipped with a shift lever, the IPC uses a park position detect switch (part of the selector lever) input to signal the IPC the shift lever is fully seated in the PARK (P) position. The IPC compares the park position detect switch input with the transmission gear display message sent from the PCM.
Pursuit Mode (Police)
The police pursuit mode allows the transmission to switch from normal, fuel-saving operation to the pursuit mode when aggressive driving is detected, based on vehicle acceleration, deceleration and braking. The IPC provides the police pursuit mode RTT indicator to inform the driver the vehicle is operating in the police pursuit mode. The IPC receives the police pursuit mode status message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the police pursuit mode status message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Ready to Drive (HEV)
The ready to drive indicator or RTT indicator informs the driver the vehicle is ready to be driven. Since the engine may turn on and off at different times during operation, the ready to drive indication helps eliminate the potential for the driver to interpret the engine turning off as a stall or other failure condition. The IPC receives the ready to drive indication request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the ready to drive indication request message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Rear Seatbelt Monitor
The IPC provides a rear seat belt monitor RTT indicator to indicate a rear seatbelt is not fastened. The IPC receives the driver rear seatbelt buckle status, passenger rear seatbelt buckle status, rear center seatbelt buckle status, driver third row seatbelt buckle status and passenger third row seatbelt buckle status messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the driver rear seatbelt buckle status, passenger rear seatbelt buckle status, rear center seatbelt buckle status, driver third row seatbelt buckle status and passenger third row seatbelt buckle status messages from the RCM over the HS-CAN2.
Seatbelt Warning
The RCM monitors the driver and passenger seatbelt positions through the seatbelt buckle switch. The RCM provides the driver seatbelt buckle status and passenger seatbelt buckle status messages to the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The GWM provides the driver seatbelt buckle status and passenger seatbelt buckle status messages to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to either turn on or turn off the seatbelt warning indicator or RTT indicator.
SelectShift® Gear Position
The IPC provides a gear position RTT indicator when SelectShift® is activated. The IPC receives the manual shift indicator display message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the manual shift indicator display message from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Speed Limiter (Except North America)
The IPC provides a speed limiter RTT indicator to inform the driver the adjustable speed limiter feature is active. The IPC receives the adjustable speed limiter indicator request and cruise control set speed display messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the adjustable speed limiter indicator request and cruise control set speed display messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Speed Limit Sign Recognition
The IPC provides a speed limit sign RTT indicator using sign recognition data from the IPMA. The IPC receives the traffic sign recognition status request from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the traffic sign recognition status request from the IPMA over the HS-CAN2.
Stability-Traction Control (Sliding Car Icon)
The stability-traction control (sliding car icon) indicator or RTT indicator informs the driver of the current status of the stability and traction control systems. The stability-traction control indicator illuminates when a fault condition exists or when an active traction control or stability control event is occuring. The IPC receives the stability-traction control indicator request message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the stability-traction control indicator request message from the ABS over the HS-CAN2.
Refer to ABS/Brake/Stability-Traction Control System Indication description in this section for information on the conditions when the stability-traction control indicator (sliding car icon) is turned on.
Traction Control Disabled (Sliding Car OFF Icon)
The stability-traction control is configured on/off from the console mounted switch. When the driver enables or disables the stability-traction control system, the ABS module sends the traction control off indicator request message to the GWM over the HS-CAN2. The GWM sends the traction control off indicator request message to the IPC over the HS-CAN3 to illuminate or turn off the stability-traction control disabled (sliding car OFF icon) indicator or RTT indicator based upon the system state.
Refer to ABS/Brake/Stability-Traction Control System Indication description for information on the conditions when the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon) is turned on.
When a MyKey® administrator has set the AdvanceTrac® feature to always on and a MyKey® programmed key is in use, the stability-traction control system cannot be disabled. The menu selection in the message center used to disable the stability-traction control system does not display when a MyKey® is in use, but remains active for the MyKey® administrator to select the AdvanceTrac® always on feature off. The stability-traction control indicator still functions normally to indicate a stability-traction control system fault and a stability-traction control active event.
TPMS Warning
The IPC receives the tire pressure warning indicator message from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the tire pressure warning indicator message from the BCM over the HS-CAN1.
If the BCM determines the tire pressure has exceeded the low tire pressure limits, the tire pressure warning indicator request message is sent to the IPC to illuminate the TPMS warning indicator or RTT indicator.
If a TPMS monitor or sensor fault condition exists, the BCM sends the tire pressure warning indicator request message to the IPC to flash the TPMS warning indicator. The IPC flashes the TPMS warning indicator for 75 seconds then turns the indicator on solid.
Vehicle Plugged In (PHEV)
The IPC provides a vehicle plugged in RTT indicator that illuminates when the vehicle is plugged into a charging source. The IPC receives the check plug to start display request and charge cord connection status messages from the GWM over the HS-CAN3. The GWM receives the check plug to start display request and charge cord connection status messages from the PCM over the HS-CAN1.
Component Description
Brake Fluid Level Switch
The brake fluid level switch is mounted in the master cylinder reservoir and is hardwired to the ABS module through separate signal and ground circuits. The ABS module provides a reference voltage to the brake fluid level switch. When the brake fluid level is high the switch closes, pulling the reference voltage low. When the brake fluid level is low, the switch opens, sending the reference voltage high on the signal circuit to the ABS module.
Fuel Level Sender (Float and Card)
The fuel level sender is mounted to the fuel pump and sender unit. The fuel level sender is a dual sweep potentiometer style resistor connected to a float mechanism. Each sweep has multiple fingers that reduces intermittent loss of data. As the fuel level changes, the float rises or falls with the fuel level moving the sweep arm across the resistor wires. This movement either increases or decreases the resistance through the unit. The fuel level sensor resistance ranges from 180 ohms ± 4 ohms to 10 ohms ± 2 ohms. When the fuel level is low, the fuel level sensor resistance is high. When the fuel level is high, the fuel level sensor resistance is low.
The fuel pump and sender unit is hardwired to the IPC through separate signal and return circuits. The fuel level return circuits are grounded internally in the IPC. The IPC provides a reference voltage on the fuel level signal circuit. As the fuel level changes, the change in resistance raises or lowers the fuel level signal voltage depending on the resistance of the fuel level sender. The IPC converts the fuel level signals and sends them to the PCM through the GWM.
IPC
The IPC provides the driver with a system status and alerts the driver when certain conditions exist in the vehicle. The IPC receives the ignition status from the BCM through the GWM over the HS-CAN3.
The IPC requires PMI when it is replaced.
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
The engine oil pressure sensor is hardwired to the PCM through voltage reference (VREF), signal and return circuits. The PCM provides the sensor voltage supply on the VREF circuit and monitors the change in voltage through the signal and return circuits as the engine oil pressure changes.
Low Washer Fluid Level Switch
The low washer fluid switch is hardwired to the IPC through a single signal wire and is grounded to a body ground through a separate circuit. The IPC provides a reference voltage to the low washer fluid level switch. When the washer fluid level is low, the float drops closing the switch and pulling the reference voltage low. When the washer fluid level is high, the float lifts opening the circuit to the IPC and sending the reference voltage high.
Park Position Detect Switch
The park position detect switch is hardwired to the IPC through a single signal circuit and is grounded by a separate circuit through the selector lever. The IPC provides a reference voltage to the park position detect switch. When the selector lever is in PARK (P), the park position detect switch closes to ground, pulling the reference voltage low. When the selector lever is moved out of PARK (P), the park position detect switch opens to ground, sending the reference voltage high to the IPC.
Seatbelt Buckle Sensor
The seatbelt buckles contain integrated sensors that are Hall-effect switches. The seatbelt buckle sensors are serviced as one component with the seatbelt buckle. The seatbelt buckles are hard-wired inputs to the RCM. The RCM sends the seatbelt buckle status messages to the IPC.

WARNING: Keep the areas in front of the airbags free from obstruction. Do not affix anything to or over the airbag covers. Objects could become projectiles during airbag deployment or in a sudden stop. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Airbags can kill or injure a child in a child restraint. Never place a rear-facing child restraint in front of an active airbag. If you must use a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat, move the seat upon which the child restraint is installed all the way back.
