A Kia Picanto equipped with the theft-alarm system carries a security label displaying the following wording. The label identifies the presence of the vehicle’s security system.

WARNING
SECURITY SYSTEM
|
The theft-alarm system helps protect the vehicle against unauthorised entry. Its operation is divided into three stages: Armed, Theft-alarm and Disarmed. When an event triggers the armed system, an audible alarm sounds and the hazard warning lights flash, providing both a sound and a visual warning.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust the theft-alarm system, as this can cause it to malfunction. Have any required servicing carried out by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for work on the system.
Malfunctions resulting from improper alterations, adjustments or modifications to the theft-alarm system are not covered by the manufacturer’s vehicle warranty. Unauthorised changes can affect the system’s ability to operate as intended.
Do not attempt to modify the alarm system or add other devices to it. Changes to its electrical connections or operation can cause electrical problems that may leave the vehicle inoperable.
Park your Kia Picanto and stop the engine before arming the theft-alarm system.
Follow the sequence below, checking that the doors, tailgate and bonnet are securely closed before locking the vehicle.
Switch off the engine before beginning the arming procedure.
Check that every door, the tailgate and the bonnet are fully closed and latched. An opening that has not been properly secured can prevent the alarm from arming.
Lock the vehicle using either of the following methods:
With the smart key in your possession, press the locking button on a front exterior door handle.
Once the procedure is completed successfully, the hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that the theft-alarm system is armed.
If a door remains open, the doors will not lock and a warning chime sounds for three seconds. Close the open door, then press the handle button again to lock the vehicle.
If the tailgate or bonnet remains open, the hazard warning lights will not flash and the theft-alarm system will not arm. Closing the tailgate and bonnet afterwards causes the hazard warning lights to flash once to confirm arming.
Press the lock button on the smart key to lock the doors remotely.
When all required openings are closed and the procedure is complete, the hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that the system is armed.
If any door, the tailgate or the bonnet remains open, the hazard warning lights will not flash and the alarm will not arm. Once all doors, the tailgate and the bonnet are subsequently closed, the hazard warning lights flash once to confirm arming.
Park the vehicle and stop the engine before using the remote transmitter to arm the alarm.
Complete the following steps to secure your Kia Picanto and activate the theft-alarm system.
Switch off the engine and remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
Make sure every door, the tailgate and the bonnet are fully closed and securely latched.
Press the lock button on the transmitter to lock the doors.
The hazard warning lights flash once when the procedure has been completed successfully, confirming that the alarm is armed.
If a door, the tailgate or the bonnet remains open, the hazard warning lights will not flash and the theft-alarm system will not arm. Closing all doors, the tailgate and the bonnet afterwards causes the lights to flash once to confirm arming.
Wait until every passenger has left the vehicle before arming the system. If someone remains inside, opening a door to leave may trigger the alarm. To help prevent an unnecessary alarm immediately after arming, the system disarms if a door, the tailgate or the bonnet is opened within 30 seconds of entering the armed stage.
While the system is armed, any of the following events triggers the theft alarm:
A door is opened without first using the transmitter or smart key to unlock the vehicle.
The tailgate is opened without using the transmitter or smart key to release its lock.
The bonnet is opened while the alarm remains armed.
When triggered, the horn sounds and the hazard warning lights flash continuously for approximately 30 seconds. Unlock the doors with the transmitter or smart key to switch off the alarm and disarm the system.
The theft-alarm system is disarmed by the following actions, depending on whether the vehicle uses a transmitter or a smart key.
Transmitter
The door unlock button on the transmitter is pressed.
The engine is started, where permitted by the vehicle’s security system.
The ignition switch remains in the ON position for at least 30 seconds.
Smart key
The door unlock button on the smart key is pressed.
The button on a front exterior door handle is pressed while you are carrying the smart key.
The engine is started using the vehicle’s normal starting procedure.
When the doors are unlocked, the hazard warning lights flash twice to confirm that the theft-alarm system has been disarmed.
If neither a door nor the tailgate is opened within 30 seconds after the unlock button is pressed, the system automatically returns to the armed stage.
NOTE
Vehicles without an immobiliser system
Do not attempt to start the engine while the alarm is active. On vehicles without an immobiliser, the starter motor is disabled during the theft-alarm stage.
If the transmitter does not disarm the system, insert the key into the ignition switch, turn it to ON and leave it in that position for 30 seconds. The system will then disarm.
If your keys are lost, Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for assistance with the appropriate replacement arrangements.
NOTE
Vehicles with an immobiliser system
If the transmitter does not disarm the alarm, insert the valid ignition key into the ignition switch and start the engine. Starting the engine disarms the system.
If your keys are lost, contact an authorised Kia dealer or service partner, as recommended by Kia, for help obtaining the correct replacement key.
Immobiliser system: (if equipped)
Door locksUse the key blade to start your vehicle and unlock or lock the driver door from outside your vehicle. The integrated keyhead transmitter functions as a programmed ignition key that operates all the locks and starts your vehicle, as well as a remote control.
