The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) detects changes in tyre radius. If the pressure in a tyre falls below the recommended level, the system warning light illuminates to alert the driver.
For the TPMS to work correctly, the driver must set the system by following the correct procedure and entering the current tyre pressure. This allows the Kia Picanto system to monitor the tyres against the pressure that has been set.
After the TPMS has been set, the warning light illuminates on the instrument cluster if one or more tyres are underinflated. The light can also illuminate to indicate a system malfunction. Refer to the images above for the low tyre pressure warning indicator and TPMS SET button.
Reset the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) on your Kia Picanto in any of these situations:
After repairing or replacing a tyre or wheel
After rotating the tyres
After adjusting tyre pressure
When the low tyre pressure indicator illuminates
After replacing the suspension or ABS system
Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface.
Inflate all tyres to the correct pressure shown on the vehicle placard or the tyre inflation pressure label on the outer panel of the driver’s-side centre pillar.
Start the engine, then press and hold the TPMS SET button (2) for approximately three seconds. The reset process will complete automatically.
Check that the low tyre pressure indicator blinks for four seconds and then turns off. On vehicles with a supervision cluster, confirm that the message “Tyre pressures stored” appears on the display.
After resetting the TPMS, drive the Kia Picanto for approximately 20 minutes to allow the system to store the new tyre pressure settings.
If the low tyre pressure indicator illuminates again, repeat step 3.
When the TPMS is reset, the current tyre pressures are stored as the standard pressures for the system.
CAUTION
Always check and correct the tyre pressures before resetting the TPMS. If you reset the system without first inflating the tyres, it may not warn you correctly when a tyre is significantly underinflated.
If a reset is required but not carried out, the TPMS may not operate correctly.
Pressing the TPMS SET button while driving will not start the reset process. The vehicle must be completely stopped before you press the button.
Check and adjust tyre pressure while the tyres are cold.
A tyre is considered cold when the vehicle has been parked for at least three hours and has been driven for less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during that period.
Indication of Low Tyre Pressure. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System malfunctionWARNING: Do not place your arms on the airbag cover or through the steering wheel. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury.
WARNING: Keep the areas in front of the airbags free from obstruction. Do not affix anything to or over the airbag covers. Objects could become projectiles during airbag deployment or in a sudden stop. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Airbags can kill or injure a child in a child restraint. Never place a rear-facing child restraint in front of an active airbag. If you must use a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat, move the seat upon which the child restraint is installed all the way back.
