If your Kia Picanto is equipped with a remote key, its buttons allow you to lock or unlock the doors and release the tailgate lock. The numbered controls in the illustration correspond to the functions described below.
|
Lock (1)
Press the lock button with all doors closed to lock the doors. Check that the doors are fully closed before using the remote locking function.
The hazard warning lights flash once to confirm that all doors have been locked.
If a door, the bonnet or the tailgate remains open, the hazard warning lights will not flash to provide this confirmation. After the lock button has been pressed, closing all doors, the bonnet and the tailgate will cause the lights to flash once.
Unlock (2)
Press the unlock button to unlock all doors. This provides access to the vehicle without operating each door lock individually.
The hazard warning lights flash twice to confirm that the doors have been unlocked.
If no door is opened within 30 seconds of pressing the unlock button, the doors lock again automatically. Open a door within that period when you intend to enter the vehicle.
Tailgate open (3)
Press and hold the tailgate button for longer than one second to release the tailgate lock. This function unlocks the tailgate so that it can be opened.
After the tailgate has been opened and then closed, it locks again automatically.
NOTE
Protect your Kia Picanto remote key from the following conditions to help prevent damage to its housing and internal electronics:
Keep the remote key away from water, other liquids and fire. Drinks or moisture entering the housing, as well as exposure to heat, can cause the internal circuitry to malfunction. Damage resulting from these conditions may not be covered by the vehicle warranty.
Do not drop or throw the remote key. Handle it carefully to avoid impacts that could damage the housing or the components inside.
Protect the remote key from extreme temperatures, which can adversely affect its operation and condition.
WARNING
Kia recommends obtaining replacement key parts from an authorised Kia dealer or service partner. An aftermarket key may prevent the ignition switch from returning to ON after it has been turned to START. If the switch remains in the starting position, the starter can continue operating, damaging the starter motor and potentially causing a fire through excessive current in the wiring.
If the remote key does not function normally, use the mechanical key to lock or unlock the door. This allows you to access or secure your Kia Picanto when the transmitter is unable to operate the door lock remotely.
|
To unfold the key:
Press the release button on the remote key housing. The mechanical key blade will unfold automatically, ready for use in the door lock.
To fold the key:
Press and hold the release button while manually folding the key blade back into the housing. Keep the button pressed as you fold the blade.
CAUTION
Always press the release button before folding the mechanical key. Forcing the blade back into the housing without pressing the button can damage the key or its folding mechanism.
Transmitter precautions
NOTE
The Kia Picanto remote key transmitter may not operate under the following conditions. If a remote command receives no response, consider the key’s position, battery condition and surrounding sources of interference:
The ignition key is inserted in the ignition switch, preventing operation of the transmitter.
The transmitter is outside its operating range of approximately 10 m (30 feet). Move closer to the vehicle before trying the remote key again.
The transmitter battery is weak and cannot provide sufficient power for normal remote operation.
Other vehicles or objects are obstructing the signal between the transmitter and the vehicle.
The weather is extremely cold, which can affect the transmitter’s ability to operate normally.
The transmitter is near a strong radio source, such as a radio station or an airport. Radio transmissions in these locations can interfere with the remote key signal and prevent normal operation.
If the transmitter does not respond correctly, use the mechanical ignition key to operate the door lock and open or close the door as needed. If the problem persists, Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for assistance.
The transmitter is positioned too close to a mobile phone or smartphone. Normal phone activity can interfere with or block the remote key signal, particularly while making or receiving calls, exchanging text messages, or sending and receiving emails. Avoid carrying the transmitter and phone together in the same trouser or jacket pocket, and keep sufficient distance between the two devices when operating the remote key.
CAUTION
Protect the transmitter from water and other liquids. If liquid exposure causes the keyless entry system to stop working, the resulting malfunction will not be covered by the manufacturer’s vehicle warranty.
Keep the transmitter away from materials that shield or block electromagnetic signals around the key. Such materials can obstruct communication between the remote key and your Kia Picanto, preventing the system from responding.
CAUTION
Changes or modifications that have not been expressly approved by the party responsible for regulatory compliance could invalidate your authority to operate the equipment. If an unapproved alteration causes the keyless entry system to malfunction or stop working, that failure will not be covered by the manufacturer’s vehicle warranty.
Record your key number. Battery replacement
Smart key : (if equipped)The front outboard and rear safety restraints in the vehicle are combination lap and shoulder belts.
