Follow the maintenance schedule below to help maintain the Kia Picanto’s emissions performance and general operation. Keep receipts for all emissions-related service work, as they may be needed for warranty records. Where an interval is given by both time and distance, carry out the service at whichever limit is reached first.
I: Inspect the item and, if necessary, adjust, correct, clean or replace it.

Engine oil and engine oil filter
Some engine oil consumption during normal driving is expected, so check the oil level regularly. For the Kia Picanto, use the dipstick and follow the checking procedure in the owner’s manual to monitor the level between scheduled services.
The normal-service oil-change interval assumes that the recommended engine oil specification is being used. If the specified oil is unavailable or a different specification is used, follow the severe-operating-conditions maintenance schedule for engine oil and the oil filter.
Do not add additives to the engine oil. They can alter the oil’s properties and may lead to serious engine damage.
Engine coolant
When topping up the cooling system, use only deionized or soft water with the coolant specified for the vehicle. Do not mix hard water with the coolant installed at the factory; an unsuitable mixture can cause a serious malfunction or engine damage.
If convenient, the coolant may be replaced before its scheduled interval while other maintenance work is being carried out.
Engine drive belts
Inspect the alternator, water-pump and air-conditioner drive belts. Adjust or repair them as needed, and replace any belt that requires replacement.
Also inspect the drive-belt tensioner, idler and alternator pulley. Correct or replace these components if inspection shows that it is necessary.
Valve clearance
Check for excessive valve noise or engine vibration. If adjustment is needed, have the system inspected by a qualified workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
Spark plugs
The spark plugs may be replaced before their stated interval when this is convenient alongside other scheduled maintenance work.
External fuel filter
The required service interval depends on fuel quality. If fuel flow becomes restricted, engine power drops, starting becomes difficult or fuel-system components become noisy, have the fuel filter or fuel pump checked promptly. Kia recommends having this work carried out by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
*Transmission fluid
Change the transmission fluid if it has been submerged in water. The schedule lists no routine inspection or service for the manual, automated manual and automatic transmission fluids.
Fuel filter (petrol engine): The fuel filter is normally maintenance-free, but periodic inspection during scheduled Kia Picanto maintenance is recommended to identify problems that may result from poor fuel quality.
If there is a safety concern or a symptom such as restricted fuel flow, surging, loss of power or difficulty starting, replace the fuel filter promptly, regardless of the scheduled interval. Contact an authorised Kia dealer or service partner for details.
