Park the Kia Picanto on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly before beginning a tyre change.
Select R (Reverse) if the vehicle has a manual transmission, or P (Park) if it has an automatic transmission.
Switch on the hazard warning flasher to alert other road users.
Remove the wheel lug nut wrench, jack, jack handle and spare tyre from the vehicle.

Place blocks in front of and behind the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel being changed.

WARNING
Changing a tyre
To prevent the vehicle from moving while a tyre is being changed, always apply the parking brake fully and block the wheel diagonally opposite the one being replaced.
Chock the vehicle’s wheels, and make sure that no one remains inside while the vehicle is raised on the jack.
Loosen each wheel nut by turning it anticlockwise one turn. Do not remove the nuts until the tyre has been lifted clear of the ground.
|
Position the jack at the designated front (1) or rear (2) jacking point nearest to the tyre being changed. Place it under the marked area of the frame. Each jacking point is a plate welded to the frame, with two tabs and a raised dot that aligns with the jack.

WARNING
Jack location
To reduce the risk of injury, use only the jack supplied with the vehicle and position it at the designated jacking point. Never support the jack under another part of the vehicle.
Insert the jack handle into the jack and turn it clockwise to raise the vehicle until the tyre is just clear of the ground, approximately 30 mm (1.2 in). Before removing the wheel nuts, check that the vehicle is stable and cannot shift or slip. For tyre information, refer to Tyres and wheels or the tyre pressure label on the driver’s door.

Remove the wheel nuts by hand and slide the wheel off the studs. Lay it flat so it cannot roll away. To fit the spare tyre, lift it into position, align its holes with the wheel studs and slide it onto the hub.
If the wheel is difficult to fit, tilt it slightly and align the top hole with the top stud first. Then move the wheel gently from side to side until it slides over the remaining studs.
WARNING
Wheel edges may be sharp, so handle the wheel carefully to avoid serious injury. Before fitting it, check that the hub and wheel mounting surfaces are free of anything that could prevent the wheel from seating firmly, such as mud, tar or gravel.
Remove any material that could interfere with the fit. If the wheel does not make proper contact with the hub, the wheel nuts may loosen and the wheel could come off. A detached wheel may cause the driver to lose control, resulting in serious injury or death.
Hold the wheel against the studs and fit the wheel nuts, tightening them by hand. Gently move the tyre to make sure it is fully seated, then tighten the nuts by hand again as far as possible.
Lower the vehicle to the ground by turning the wheel lug nut wrench anticlockwise.
Position the wrench as shown in the illustration and tighten the wheel nuts. Make sure the socket is fully seated on each nut. Do not stand on the wrench handle or add an extension pipe. Tighten the nuts in an alternating pattern, working around the wheel until all are tight, then check each one again. After changing a wheel, have it checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.

Wheel nut tightening torque:
Steel wheel and aluminium alloy wheel: 11–13 kgf·m (79–94 lbf·ft)
If you have a tyre pressure gauge, remove the valve cap and check the pressure. If it is below the recommended level, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate the tyre to the correct pressure. If the pressure is too high, release air until it reaches the specified level. Always refit the valve cap after checking or adjusting the pressure; without it, air may leak from the tyre. If a valve cap is lost, replace it as soon as possible.
After changing the wheel, secure the flat tyre in its storage position and return the jack and tools to their designated locations.
CAUTION
The wheel studs and nuts on your vehicle have metric threads. When removing a wheel, refit the same nuts or use replacements with metric threads and the same chamfer shape. A nut with a non-metric thread on a metric stud, or the reverse, will not secure the wheel correctly and may damage the stud, requiring replacement.
Many lug nuts do not have metric threads. Check the thread type carefully before fitting aftermarket lug nuts or wheels.
If you are unsure, consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends contacting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
Wheel studs
Damaged wheel studs may not hold the wheel securely. This could cause the wheel to come off and lead to a collision resulting in serious injury.
Secure the jack, jack handle, wheel lug nut wrench and spare tyre in their proper storage positions so they do not rattle while the Kia Picanto is moving.
WARNING
Inadequate spare tyre pressure
Check the spare tyre pressure as soon as possible after fitting it. If necessary, adjust it to the specified pressure. Refer to Tyres and wheels for the correct information.
Important: use of compact spare tyre (if equipped)
Your vehicle may be equipped with a compact spare tyre. It takes up less space than a full-size tyre, is smaller than a conventional tyre and is intended for temporary use only.
CAUTION
Drive carefully while the compact spare tyre is fitted. Replace it with the correct conventional tyre and wheel at the first opportunity.
Do not use more than one compact spare tyre on the vehicle at the same time.
WARNING
The compact spare tyre is for emergency use only. Do not drive faster than 80 km/h (50 mph) with it fitted. Repair or replace the original tyre as soon as possible to reduce the risk of spare tyre failure, which could cause serious injury or death.
Inflate the compact spare tyre to 420 kPa (60 psi).
NOTE
Check the pressure after fitting the spare tyre and adjust it to the specified level if necessary.
When using a compact spare tyre, observe these precautions:
Never exceed 80 km/h (50 mph). Driving faster may damage the tyre.
Drive slowly enough to avoid road hazards. Potholes, debris and similar hazards can seriously damage the compact spare.
Using the compact spare continuously may lead to tyre failure, loss of vehicle control and possible personal injury.
Do not exceed the vehicle’s maximum load rating or the load capacity stated on the compact spare tyre’s sidewall.
Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare has a smaller diameter than a conventional tyre and reduces ground clearance by approximately 2.5 cm (1 in), which may damage the vehicle.
Do not take the vehicle through an automatic car wash while the compact spare tyre is fitted.
Do not fit tyre chains to the temporary compact spare. A chain will not fit correctly because of the tyre’s smaller size and may damage the vehicle or come loose.
If the vehicle must be driven on snow or ice, do not fit the temporary compact spare to the front axle.
Do not use the temporary compact spare on another vehicle; it has been designed specifically for your vehicle.
The temporary compact spare has a shorter tread life than a regular tyre. Inspect it regularly, and replace a worn compact spare with one of the same size and design, fitted to the same wheel.
Do not fit the temporary compact spare to another wheel, or use standard tyres, snow tyres, wheel covers or trim rings with the temporary spare wheel. Doing so may damage these items or other vehicle components.
Use only one temporary compact spare tyre at a time.
Do not tow a trailer while the temporary compact spare is fitted.
Jack label. Example. Declaration of Conformity for JackWARNING: Position the seatbelt height adjuster so that the seatbelt rests across the middle of your shoulder. Failure to adjust the seatbelt correctly could reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of injury in a crash.
