The Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) alerts drivers behind you to sudden braking by flashing the brake lights during an emergency stop or when ABS intervenes while stopping. The system activates at vehicle speeds above 55 km/h when deceleration exceeds 7 m/s², or when ABS activates during emergency braking.
The brake lights stop flashing when vehicle speed falls below 40 km/h and ABS deactivates or the sudden-braking situation has ended. The flashing signal is intended to draw attention to the emergency braking event.
CAUTION
The Emergency Stop Signal will not operate while the hazard warning flashers are already switched on.
The Brake Assistant System supplies additional braking pressure when you press the brake pedal quickly and firmly in a situation that requires sudden braking. This assistance supports your braking input during an urgent stop while driving.
By increasing brake pressure up to the point where the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) intervenes, BAS helps ABS control begin sooner. This quicker build-up of braking pressure helps reduce the braking distance during the emergency braking event.
WARNING
BAS may not activate in every braking situation. Its response depends on factors such as your driving habits, vehicle speed, how firmly you depress the brake pedal and the condition of the road surface. Do not assume that additional brake assistance will always be available.
Hill-start assist control (HAC): (if equipped). Vehicle stability management (VSM): (if equipped)
Good braking practicesThe front outboard and rear safety restraints in the vehicle are combination lap and shoulder belts.
