When driving
Keep Electronic Stability Control (ESC) switched on whenever possible during everyday driving. This allows the system to provide its intended stability assistance when conditions require it.
If you need to disable ESC while driving, press the ESC OFF button only while travelling on a flat road surface and while the system is not actively intervening.
Never press the ESC OFF button while ESC is operating. A flashing ESC indicator tells you that the system is currently providing assistance.
Switching ESC off during active intervention can allow the vehicle to skid and may result in a loss of control.
NOTE
When operating your Kia Picanto on a dynamometer, make sure ESC is disabled. Confirm that the ESC OFF indicator is illuminated before carrying out the test.
Disabling ESC does not switch off the anti-lock brake system (ABS) or affect normal brake system operation. These braking functions remain available.
WARNING
Never press the ESC OFF button when ESC is actively operating and its indicator is flashing.
Removing stability assistance while the system is intervening may cause the vehicle to go out of control.
If ESC must be switched off while driving, do so on a flat road surface, using the ESC OFF button only when the system is not intervening.
