Ford Explorer: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems / Removal and Installation - Exterior Rear Door Handle

Removal

NOTE: LH (left-hand) side shown, RH (right-hand) side similar.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Vehicles with passive entry

1. Remove the rear door window regulator and motor.
   Refer to: Rear Door Window Regulator and Motor (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, Removal and Installation).
   

1. NOTE: The rear door is shown transparent for clarity.

   Disconnect the exterior rear door handle electrical connector.
   

All vehicles

1. Remove the exterior rear door handle access plug.
   

1. 
   Remove the exterior rear door handle.
   
   1. Hold the exterior rear door handle open.
      
   2. Turn the release screw enough to release the exterior rear door handle and remove the exterior rear door handle.
      Torque: 35 lb.in (4 Nm)

1. 
   Remove the exterior rear door handle gaskets and plug.
   
   1. Remove the exterior rear door handle plug.
      
   2. Remove the exterior rear door handle gasket.
      
   3. Remove the exterior rear door handle gasket.
      

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
