The following list describes checks and inspections to carry out at the stated intervals to help keep your Kia Picanto safe and dependable in everyday use.
Report any unusual or adverse conditions to your dealer as soon as possible so they can be assessed.
These owner maintenance checks are generally not covered by the vehicle warranty. You may be charged for the labour, parts and lubricants required to carry them out.
When you stop for fuel:
Check the coolant level in the reservoir.
Check the windscreen washer fluid level.
Look over the tyres for low pressure or signs that they are underinflated.
WARNING
Take care when checking the coolant level while the engine is hot. Pressurised, scalding coolant or steam may escape and cause burns or other serious injuries.
Whilst driving your Kia Picanto:
Listen for any change in exhaust noise and check for exhaust fumes entering the vehicle.
Notice any vibration through the steering wheel, increased steering effort, looseness or a change in the wheel’s straight-ahead position.
On a smooth, level road, check whether the vehicle consistently turns or pulls slightly to one side.
When braking, listen for unusual sounds and note whether the vehicle pulls to one side, the brake pedal travels farther than usual or the pedal feels difficult to press.
If the transmission slips or its operation changes, check the transmission fluid level.
Check the operation of the manual transmission, including the clutch.
Check that the automatic transmission engages P (Park) correctly.
Check that the parking brake operates properly.

At least once a month:
Check the coolant level in the engine coolant reservoir.
Check that all exterior lights work, including the stoplights, turn signals and hazard warning flashers.
Check the inflation pressure of every tyre, including the spare. Look for worn tyres, uneven tread wear or damage.
Check that the wheel lug nuts are secure.
At least twice a year, in spring and autumn:
Inspect the radiator, heater and air conditioning hoses for leaks and damage.
Check the windscreen washer spray and wiper operation. Clean the wiper blades with a clean cloth dampened with washer fluid.
Check that the headlights are correctly aligned.
Inspect the muffler, exhaust pipes, heat shields and clamps.
Check the lap and shoulder belts for wear and make sure they operate correctly.
