A: Check Lane Safety system |
If Lane Keeping Assist is not functioning correctly, a warning message appears in the instrument cluster together
with the yellow indicator (
). This combination
indicates that the function requires attention.
Have the system inspected by a professional workshop if this warning occurs. Kia recommends visiting an authorised Kia dealer or service partner to identify the cause.
Lane Keeping Assist disabled
|
A: Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured. |
Snow, rain or other material covering the sensors or the windscreen in front of the camera can reduce detection performance. When the camera’s view is obstructed, Lane Keeping Assist may become temporarily limited or unavailable.
In this situation, the instrument cluster displays a warning message along with the Master warning light (
) and the Lane Safety warning light (
). This is the system’s normal
response to reduced detection capability.
Normal operation should resume after snow, rain or other obstructing material has been cleared. Keep the relevant sensor and windscreen areas clean so that the camera can recognise the road ahead.
If Lane Keeping Assist still does not work correctly after cleaning away foreign material or removing obstructions, including a trailer or carrier attached near the rear bumper, have your Kia Picanto inspected by an authorised Kia dealer or service partner.
WARNING
Lane Keeping Assist may not operate correctly even when no warning message or warning light is currently displayed. The absence of a warning does not guarantee that steering assistance is available.
Restarting the vehicle does not necessarily restore normal operation. If the obstruction or malfunction remains, Lane Keeping Assist may continue to function incorrectly after the restart.
Lane Keeping Assist in the Kia Picanto may not detect lane boundaries reliably or may respond unexpectedly in certain road and traffic conditions, including the following:
Lane markings or road edges are dirty, obscured or difficult to distinguish, for example when:
Rain, snow, dirt, oil or other material covers the markings or road edges.
The markings or road edges are too similar in colour to the road surface.
Other markings nearby look like lane lines or road edges.
Lane markings or road edges are faint, unclear or damaged.
Shadows from roadside objects, such as a central reservation, crash barrier, noise barrier or bushes, or from another vehicle, fall across the lane.
The number of lanes changes, or lane markings or road edges cross one another.
A long object is lying on the road.
Longitudinal cracks are present in the road surface.
The road has more than two sets of lane markings or road edges.
Lane markings or road edges form a complex pattern, or a structure such as a construction zone takes the place of the usual lines.
Other road markings, including zigzag lines, crosswalk markings or road signs, make the lane boundaries harder to identify.
The lane ends or disappears suddenly, such as near an intersection.
The Kia Picanto is travelling through a tight curve.
The lane or road is unusually wide or narrow.
The vehicle is negotiating a sharp bend, where the camera may have difficulty following the lane.
A kerb is present without a painted lane line.
A roadside boundary structure, such as a tollgate, footpath or kerb, lies close to the roadway.
The vehicle ahead is very close or is blocking the lane marking or road edge from view.
NOTE
For further information about front view camera limitations, see the section on Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion).
WARNING
The driver remains responsible for safe driving and vehicle control. Do not rely solely on Lane Keeping Assist or use it as a reason to drive carelessly.
Road conditions and the vehicle’s surroundings may interrupt the system or affect its performance. Stay alert and maintain control of the Kia Picanto at all times.
If lane boundaries are not detected correctly, refer to the section on Lane Keeping Assist malfunction and limitations.
For safety, switch off Lane Keeping Assist when towing a trailer or another vehicle.
At high speeds, the system may not provide steering assistance. Always observe the applicable speed limit.
If another system displays a warning or sounds an alert, the Lane Keeping Assist message or audible warning may not appear or sound.
Background noise may make the Lane Keeping Assist warning difficult to hear. Set the audio volume at a moderate level and continue to watch the road and surrounding traffic.
Objects attached to the steering wheel may interfere with steering assistance.
Lane Keeping Assist may be unavailable for approximately 15 seconds after the vehicle is started or while the front view camera is initializing.
Lane Keeping Assist will not operate in the following situations:
Immediately after the turn signal or hazard warning flasher has been switched on or off.
When the vehicle is not centred in its lane as the system is switched on, or immediately after a lane change.
While ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) is active.
When the vehicle turns quickly on a curved road.
When vehicle speed is below 55 km/h (35 mph) or above 210 km/h (130 mph).
During a sharp lane change.
When the vehicle brakes suddenly.
Exceeding the vehicle’s maximum load allowance, or concentrating cargo in one area, can affect stability and reduce the effectiveness of Lane Keeping Assist.
Lane Keeping Assist operation
Lane Following Assist (LFA): (if equipped)WARNING: Do not place your arms on the airbag cover or through the steering wheel. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury.
WARNING: Keep the areas in front of the airbags free from obstruction. Do not affix anything to or over the airbag covers. Objects could become projectiles during airbag deployment or in a sudden stop. Failure to follow this instruction could result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Airbags can kill or injure a child in a child restraint. Never place a rear-facing child restraint in front of an active airbag. If you must use a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat, move the seat upon which the child restraint is installed all the way back.
