Each time the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is switched ON, the driver’s seat belt warning light illuminates for approximately six seconds, whether or not the belt is fastened. If the belt is unfastened, an accompanying chime sounds for approximately six seconds.
If you begin driving your Kia Picanto without fastening the belt, or release it while stopped or travelling below 20 km/h (12 mph), the corresponding warning light remains illuminated to remind you to buckle up.
If the belt is unfastened when you begin driving at 20 km/h (12 mph) or faster, or you release it at that speed, the warning light flashes and the chime sounds for approximately 100 seconds.
When the driver’s belt is released during a journey, the warning remains speed-dependent: below 20 km/h (12 mph), the light illuminates steadily.
At 20 km/h (12 mph) or above, the light flashes and the warning chime sounds for approximately 100 seconds. Fasten the belt correctly and keep it fastened throughout the journey in your Kia Picanto.

Each time the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is switched ON, the front passenger’s seat belt warning light illuminates for approximately six seconds. This initial reminder appears whether or not the belt is fastened.
If the vehicle begins moving with the front passenger’s belt unfastened, or the belt is released while stopped or travelling below 20 km/h (12 mph), the corresponding warning light illuminates steadily.
At 20 km/h (12 mph) or above, travelling with the belt unfastened or releasing it while driving causes the warning light to flash and an audible warning to sound for approximately 100 seconds.
If the passenger unfastens the belt during a journey, the warning response depends on vehicle speed. Below 20 km/h (12 mph), the light remains illuminated; at 20 km/h (12 mph) or faster, it flashes and the chime sounds for approximately 100 seconds. The passenger should keep the belt correctly fastened throughout the journey in your Kia Picanto.
WARNING
An incorrect seating position can interfere with the front passenger seat belt warning system. The driver must make sure the passenger understands and follows the seating instructions in this manual, rather than relying on the warning system to confirm correct positioning.
NOTE
The front passenger’s seat belt warning light is located on the centre fascia panel.
The light may flash or illuminate for approximately six seconds even when the front passenger seat is empty. This can occur during the initial reminder sequence.
Luggage placed on the front passenger seat may activate the seat belt warning. A warning can therefore occur even when the seat is carrying an object rather than a passenger.
Rear passenger’s seat belt warning: (if equipped)
|
For rear left and right seat (for Europe)
Whenever the ignition is switched ON, the rear passenger seat belt warning lights illuminate for approximately six seconds, regardless of whether the belts are fastened.
If driving begins with a belt unfastened, or a belt is released while travelling below 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light for that seating position remains illuminated.
If driving begins with a belt unfastened, or a belt is released while travelling above 20 km/h (12 mph), the corresponding light flashes and the seat belt warning chime sounds for approximately 35 seconds.
For rear centre seat (for Europe)
The rear seat belt warning lights illuminate for approximately six seconds whenever the ignition is switched ON. This reminder appears whether or not the belts are fastened.
If the vehicle begins moving with the centre rear belt unfastened, its warning light remains illuminated for approximately 70 seconds.
If the centre rear belt is released while travelling below 20 km/h (12 mph), the warning light illuminates for approximately 70 seconds.
If the centre rear belt is released while travelling above 20 km/h (12 mph), the corresponding warning light flashes and the chime sounds for approximately 35 seconds.
If a rear door is opened or closed while vehicle speed is below 10 km/h (6 mph), the warning light and chime do not activate for this seating position, even if speed subsequently exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph). Always check belt use directly, as the absence of a warning does not confirm that the occupant is restrained.
For all rear seats (except Europe)
Each time the ignition is switched ON, the rear passenger seat belt warning lights illuminate for approximately six seconds, regardless of belt fastening.
If you begin driving with a rear seat belt unfastened, the corresponding warning light illuminates for approximately 70 seconds.
If a rear belt is released while travelling below 20 km/h (12 mph), its warning light illuminates for approximately 70 seconds.
If a rear belt is released while travelling above 20 km/h (12 mph), the light for that seat flashes and the warning chime sounds for approximately 35 seconds.
If a rear door is opened or closed below 10 km/h (6 mph), the rear belt warning light and chime do not operate, even if the vehicle later exceeds 20 km/h (12 mph). Confirm that every rear passenger in your Kia Picanto is correctly belted before travelling, regardless of the warning display.
Lap/Shoulder beltWhen these locks are set, you cannot open the rear doors from the inside.

A child safety lock is on the rear edge of each rear door. You must set the child safety lock separately on each door.
