Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist provides warnings and assistance in the following situations:
Collision warning
Collision-avoidance assistance while departing
![]() |
When the Kia Picanto detects a vehicle approaching from behind in an adjacent lane, the warning indicator appears on the instrument cluster and in the outside rear-view mirror.
Vehicle detection is available when both of these conditions are met:
Your vehicle is travelling above 20 km/h (12 mph).
The vehicle in the blind-spot area is travelling above 10 km/h (7 mph).
Once a vehicle has been detected, the system can warn you if you switch on the turn signal to change lanes while that vehicle is alongside the Kia Picanto in the blind spot.
The collision warning uses the instrument cluster indicator, the outside rear-view mirror indicator and an audible alert.
If you switch off the turn signal or move away from the lane, the collision warning is cancelled and the system returns to vehicle detection mode.
The turn-signal collision warning operates when both of these conditions are met:
Your vehicle is travelling above 40 km/h (25 mph).
The vehicle in the blind-spot area is travelling above 10 km/h (7 mph).
WARNING
The rear corner radar detection range is based on a standard road width. On a narrow road, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist may detect vehicles two lanes away and issue a warning. On a wide road, it may not detect a vehicle in the next lane and may not warn you.
The turn-signal collision warning is unavailable while the hazard warning flasher is on.
NOTE
Depending on which side of the vehicle the driver sits, the warning may be triggered when turning left in a left-hand-drive vehicle or turning right in a right-hand-drive vehicle.
Leave an adequate distance from vehicles in adjacent lanes.
Instrument cluster images and colours may vary according to the cluster specification or selected theme.

A: Emergency braking |
If the Kia Picanto detects a risk of collision with a vehicle approaching through the blind spot while departing, the outside rear-view mirror warning and an audible alert notify the driver. The system may also assist with braking to help prevent a collision.
Collision-Avoidance Assist while departing operates when both of these conditions are met:
Your vehicle is travelling below 3 km/h (2 mph).
The vehicle in the blind-spot area is travelling above 5 km/h (3 mph).

A: Drive carefully |
If emergency braking brings the vehicle to a stop, a warning message appears on the instrument cluster. For your safety, press the brake pedal immediately and check the area around the vehicle.
Brake control ends approximately two seconds after the system has stopped the vehicle.
WARNING
For your safety, change system settings only after parking the Kia Picanto in a safe location.
If another function displays a warning message or sounds an alert, the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist message or audible warning may not be displayed or heard.
Noise around the vehicle may make the system’s audible warning difficult to hear. Stay alert to your surroundings and keep the audio volume at a moderate level.
Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate if you press the brake pedal to avoid a collision.
While the system is providing braking assistance, its control may be cancelled if you press the accelerator pedal excessively or steer sharply.
The Kia Picanto may stop suddenly while Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist is operating, which could injure occupants or cause unsecured items to move. Wear your seat belt and secure loose objects.
If Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist has a fault, the vehicle’s basic braking system will continue to operate.
The system cannot prevent collisions in every situation, even when it operates.
Depending on road and driving conditions, the system may warn you late or may not issue a warning.
The driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle. Do not rely solely on Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist; check the surrounding area directly and drive safely.
Never deliberately activate Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist near people, animals or objects. Doing so could cause serious injury or death.
WARNING
Brake assistance may not work as intended depending on the status of ESC (Electronic Stability Control). The system provides a warning only in the following circumstances:
The ESC warning light is illuminated.
ESC is controlling the vehicle through another function.
