The air bags fitted to your Kia Picanto may differ from those shown in the illustrations. The examples below explain the collision conditions associated with front, side and curtain air bag deployment.
|
Airbag inflation conditions |
|
|---|---|
|
Front air bags are designed to inflate during qualifying frontal collisions. Deployment depends on the intensity, speed and angle of the frontal impact, rather than simply on whether the front of the vehicle has been struck. |
|
Side and/or curtain air bags are designed to inflate when the side collision sensors detect a qualifying impact. Their deployment depends on the strength, speed and angle of the forces generated during the side-impact collision. |
NOTE
Side and curtain air bags
Where the vehicle is equipped with a rollover sensor, the side and curtain air bags are also designed to inflate when that sensor detects a rollover. This operation depends on the equipment installed in your vehicle and the conditions detected by the system.
The driver’s and front passenger’s air bags are designed for frontal collisions, but they may also inflate during another type of collision if the front impact sensors detect a sufficiently strong impact. Similarly, side and/or curtain air bags are designed for side-impact collisions, yet may deploy in other collisions if the side impact sensors detect sufficient force. The direction in which a collision appears to occur does not, by itself, determine which air bags will inflate.
For example, side and curtain air bags may inflate if the rollover sensor detects conditions indicating that a rollover could occur, even if the vehicle does not ultimately roll over. Deployment may also occur in other circumstances, including when the vehicle tilts during towing. Although side and/or curtain air bags may not provide impact protection in a rollover, their deployment is intended to help prevent occupants from being ejected, particularly occupants who are properly restrained by seat belts.
Air bags may also deploy if bumps or objects strike the chassis while the Kia Picanto is travelling on unimproved roads or over pavements. Drive carefully on rough roads and on surfaces not intended for vehicle traffic, as a sufficiently strong impact beneath the vehicle can trigger unintended air bag deployment.
NOTE
If equipped with rollover sensor
In addition to their side-impact function, the side and curtain air bags are designed to inflate when the rollover sensor detects a rollover. This additional deployment function applies to vehicles fitted with the rollover sensor.

Airbag non-inflation conditionsWARNING: Position the seatbelt height adjuster so that the seatbelt rests across the middle of your shoulder. Failure to adjust the seatbelt correctly could reduce its effectiveness and increase the risk of injury in a crash.
