Kia Picanto: Door locks / Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system

Kia Picanto 2024-2026 Owner's Manual / Opening and closing / Door locks / Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system provides a reminder to check the rear seat before leaving the vehicle. It is intended to help prevent a rear passenger from being left behind when the driver exits.

  • After a rear door has been opened and closed, switching off the engine and then opening a front door causes a warning message to appear on the instrument cluster. The message prompts you to check the rear seat before walking away.

A: Check rear seat for passengers and belongings.

To enable or disable Rear Occupant Alert, select User Settings > Convenience > Rear Occupant Alert on the instrument cluster. On the infotainment system, use Setup > Vehicle > Convenience > Rear Occupant Alert.

WARNING

The ROA system does not detect people or objects on the rear seat. It uses the recorded opening and closing of a rear door to remind the driver that a passenger or belongings may be present. Always check the rear seat yourself rather than relying on the system to confirm whether it is occupied.

CAUTION

Rear Occupant Alert operates from the stored history of rear door opening and closing, rather than from direct monitoring of the rear seat.

This history resets after the driver switches off the ignition normally, exits the vehicle and locks it remotely using the remote keyless entry system. Until that sequence is completed, the alert may appear again even if no rear door has been reopened.

For example, if the reminder appears and the driver leaves the vehicle unlocked before driving again, the same reminder may be displayed at the end of the next journey.

WARNING

The door locking system may not operate if the vehicle’s electrical system is compromised. Before an emergency occurs, explain to child passengers how to operate the manual door release available to them. They should understand how to open a door manually if electrical operation becomes unavailable during an emergency.
