Never disassemble or modify any part of the seat belt system in your Kia Picanto. Protect the belt webbing, buckles and other hardware from damage caused by seat hinges, closing doors or rough handling. When moving a seat or closing a door, make sure no part of the belt is trapped or placed under unnecessary strain.
WARNING
When returning a folded rear seatback to its upright position, take care not to damage the seat belt webbing or buckle. Check that neither component is caught, pinched or trapped within the rear seat. Damaged webbing or a damaged buckle may fail to restrain an occupant during a collision or sudden stop, potentially causing serious injury. If you find damage to the webbing or buckles, have the affected components replaced immediately.
Seat belts and their hardware can become hot when the vehicle has been left closed in sunny weather. Check their temperature before fastening them around an infant or child.
Contact with hot belt components can cause burns, particularly to infants and young children.
Periodic inspection
Inspect every seat belt periodically for wear, damage or deterioration. Check the webbing as well as the buckles and other belt hardware, rather than relying only on the appearance of the exposed strap. Have any damaged parts replaced as soon as possible so that the restraint system remains ready for use.
Keep belts clean and dry
Keep seat belts clean and dry to help preserve the condition of the webbing. If a belt becomes dirty, clean it with a mild soap solution and warm water. Do not use bleach, dyes, strong detergents or abrasive cleaning products. These substances can damage or weaken the fabric and reduce its ability to provide the intended protection.
When to replace seat belts
If your Kia Picanto has been involved in an accident, replace the complete seat belt assembly for every belt that was in use during the impact. Replacement is necessary even when the webbing and hardware show no visible damage, as appearance alone does not establish that the assembly remains suitable for use. Have the replacement carried out by a professional workshop. Kia recommends consulting an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
